Substance @ Camp Daved fri 12 of Dec, Free entry till 3AM!

Substance takes over Myst’s dates at Camp David to bring you underground House/Techno from both residents and monthly guests. Substance is also the first club night in the Toon to offer free entry till 3am, yes 3am! So it’s the only place you can rave the night away for nothing more then the price of drinks at the bar.

and its not a good thing that people have enough passion about the music they love to spend a considerable amount of their own time, not to mention money putting something like this on?

My point wasn't being to slate any night just that the amount of simialr nights now in town would be madness for the most passionate of DJ/Promoter's to even consider doing there own thing in thinking they can make it work let alone sticking money into it!

But hey by all means crack on, we'll have this same conversation in 6 months & see if folk are still as "passionate" then ;)

I was about to say something similar myself- you get out what you put in etc etc, a lot of nights will most prob not go beyond their first year- time will tell. and in six months time it will be summer, I can guarantee i'll be more passionate about it then cause it won't mean freezing to death everytime we go out to do promo  will probably be at this before heading down to digital to feel the immense cold given off by the ice rink

proudy, you are beginning to sound like me more and more.

    lol

too few nights is BAD for the scene

too many nights is bad for the scene

no one is knocking people being passionate about music etc... but the advent of the net has created a plethora of "promoters" that are looking to stick marginally big names on after only like 2 or 3 events

promotion inho is about more than just booking a NAME and whacking out a load of posters

its about cultivating and developing your following over a number of years through doing something different to what everyone else is doing

with ref to CRISPY as he is the one replying - you have very nice posters

but surely you are going to have to go some on numbers at the end on the 19th to break even that gig

unless coombs is doing you a knockdown bargain basement price

surely you are going to have to turn like 100-150 in a venue which maybe holds 200 max - if this is way wide of the mark I await to stand correrected - do you not risk putting yourself out of pocket at this financilally stretching time of year???

Except for Crispy/Wax on are these all house/minimal nights.

Talk about overkill there are other forms of electronic dance music out there at the moment.

    @ melt

Cheers, we have a rather talented young man who does the design for us, I keep him locked in a cupboard at home. Totally agree with most of what you said, I think to make some thing successful you have to stick at it, have a lot of passion and be prepared to spend a lot of time/money on it. and yes, definitely do something different. no comment on the money stuff for the 19th, maybe I just have kick ass negotiating skills?

apologies for the thread hijack, as I said, will most likely be in attendance
