Straw Dogs Did anyone watch this last night? Was released in 1971 but got banned from video release till 2 years ago and last night was shown uncut for the first time on tv. Hence was quite interested to see what the fuss was about, But it didnt shock in any way, even the double rape seen which caused the greatest uproar was nothing compared to what u see in modern day films, and the violence at the end was very tame. Obviously 22 years ago none of this had been seen b4 and society was different so the outrage it caused was understandable.
aye back then it wasn't gore etc that shocked, it was the implication that something had happened really. look at texas chainsaw massacre. aint a lot of graphic scenes but its what they implied happened that got it banned.
Why I watched that film I don't know. I didn't follow it 100% because I was on here too, but I didn't really understand the whole film. I didn't understand why that girl near the end wanted to go with that ugly cunt that everyone was looking for and I certainly didn't understand why that geek who owned the house wanted to keep him alive and I just generally didn't get the point in the film.. can someone explain these to me?
The bloke was a paedophile who had be caught b4. The young girl fancied Dustin Hoffman character and when she saw him at the show he blanked her. She knew the other fella was some 1 who would def have sex with her due to his tendencies. Dustin Hoffmans character was a pacifist at heart and believed that the matter should be sorted out properly not lewft to a violent mob, hence why he was trying to keep him till the police turned up. As the mobs actions got worse he snapped and decided to protect himself and his wife by any means possible. Hope that helps
It was banned due to one of the rape scenes. Susan George who plays Dustin's wife or G/F, is raped twice. In one of the rapes, think the first one, she is raped by an ex local village idiot B/F, but during the rape she start to like it and ends up enjoying the "forced fuck". It's this that the BBFC objected to - you can't blame their analysis - they thought that this rape would make all weak minded men think of all women, "they want it really", that "no means yes" etc... This scene has been referred to as "porno rape" and that it was done to titillate, rather than to shock. Interestingly though, the film was made by Sam Peckinpah (The Wild Bunch etc) - who was a notorious womaniser, bastard, by all accounts - he said of the rape scene, "I wanted to make the best rape scene ever..." The BBFC were probably right...
i was flicking threw the channels after i read my book. i saw him ask her to lie down next to him...then he started convulsing..and there was blood on the pillow...she rang the priest and there were shots of a person in the sea with blood and then she went and found a nun and then there was a really odd scene on a cliff...then there was a cross...and then i gave up and watched noahs ark.
oh is that "church reps - ibiza"? i saw some monks in san antonio with some really dirty habits!!!!! (sorry)
