Stanton STR8-150's After long thought on which Decks to buy I ended up taking a risk nd going for these. Despite the reliablility of the Technics 1210's and the Vestax PDX-2000's. I have had them a while now and have used both Technics and Vestax quite alot. Enough to know the variations between all three models. This is going to upset a few people and will spark alot of mixed comments (mostly disagreement), but I stand by my choice and after using them for a while now have proved to myself I made the right choice. These decks are the DOGS! If you havent used them, you cant comment. You have to try these out. The torque on them is just out of this world. I know the Technics are industry standard and EVERY club has them, bla bla bla, Ive had this already. Ok, Technics, brilliant deck, I am not saying they arent, but Jesus these are even more impressive. Any comments regarding the Technics MK5 to these will be appreciated, as I have had no experience on these turntables. Ok so these turntables have a while to go on the market yet to see if they match the reliablility of the Technics 1210, but spec wise these beat them hands down.
I had a pair of STR8-60's and they were nice decks. liked them but the power and torque on them werent that good. but if they sorted this out and can imagine them being really good decks
wicked. but, when u play out in a club, and they have technics, and they feel different, and u have problems mixing, thats when u will wish u bought technics....
Yeh I suppose Revel, but isnt that just an excuse if you do, do bad. A good craftsman never blames his tools. I would like to think that when I am good enough I will be able to use any equipment I am faced with. Its the same with mixers, except not every club has the same mixer, so what are we supposed to do there, buy all the best mixers so that we are equiped for when we play out??? Just a thought!
This is a common misconception with new DJs, they assume that if they can use one deck, they can use all decks with equal results in the mix. The fact of the matter is, that that is simply a load of bollocks in the real world. (Thats not having a dig at you by they way Aaron, just a general, true statement....I thought exactly the same when i was starting out). You get used to the motors, stability and speed adjust of your particular deck, then you use something with lower torque, or something totally different....technics for example, and you just think "Shit, I cant do this" everybody has been there. When I first had a proper go on Technics, after 2 and a half years of DJing, i was utterly all over the place. Its not so bad with mixers, standard layout in terms of faders, cueing systems differ, but that takes seconds to adjust to. Using a different mixer is not on the same lines as using different decks, not by any means. Its not a case of being "good enough," its a case of what you are used to. Took me quite a while to get 100% comfortable with Technics, and I own a pair! Its for these reasons that i sold my vestax, and bought technics. Its not that they are better as such, its just thats what you need to be able to perform on when the time comes, its alright being the dogs on your own decks, but believe me, and i speak from experience, its a whole different ballgame when you leave the comfort of your bedroom
looks like i might have to source a 1210 from somewhere. my other one is feeling lonely ..... wait a minute!... fuck that, without my pitch range i would be buggerd
how many pints of alcohol have spilt of em tho? thats the real test of a quality deck... btw the mk5's have passed this test on a few occasions also the 1200's look prettier. they may not have all these 'wonder features' but when are you seriously gonna use +/- 50% pitch or reverse in a real mix an it sounds good? also technics are cooler thn any other deck. fact.
ditto, I had a set of stanton str8-50 old skool belt drives when I started 3 yrs ago, had them for about a year and a bit and got quite good on them, when I went to have a look at some dude's techs, he let me have a mix, and I couldn't match the beats for shit. I that subconciously everyone learns the sensitivity of their own decks, and technics has done an awesome job to keep this sensitivity standard on all their turntables, hence their popularity.
i really, really struggled in the promise comp, because i had never used a set of technics before, a good craftsman shouldnt blame his tools, but is allowed to when hes only got 20 minuites to get used to them will be buying sum technics this year
Agreed with the fact that you don't need anything more than +-8% for mixing but the reverse button allows for some cool effects if you know how to use it. And the scribbles and other scratches you can do with them also make them worth it.
ive gave it some usage when playing hard house. not all tunes sound good pitched up but some work on even +16 or so. its also good for silly touches like braying a tune up to +50 over a few bars.. its messes people up a bit i love my vestax.. i also love my technics.. but im not fussy
Alot of ppl hav posted their reviews on Technics on Vestax. But has anyone actually used these Stantons????? These are quite literally the best deck on the market so far. Ok so now I need a flight case for my dex to take them to the next Promise compo, lol! So nice points cheerz every1!
I've only got a pair of shitty Kam directdrive from circa 937bc, they're old, shit and have all the torque of a lethargic snail. But the 4or5 times i've had a go on some 1210s it's only taken me 5mins to get used to them, i don't really see what everyone's problem is. After a mix or two you get to know how much more/less powerful they are than your own decks and you can adjust as needs be.
Looks like I didnt look into it enough. Just had another go with technics but this time a thorogh go a them. Uz are rite, ahhhh, shit man I need sum technics. 2 Q's - Could I master them with only one deck coz I cant afford 2 - Are the MK5's the exact same feel to the other technic models? thanx
