Stanley Victor Collymore Spice Boy waster or victim of his own fame? I always loved him as a player and was gutted when he retired... never thought he got a good crack at England either. Mostly due to the witch hunt in the media of all young players of the time who liked a drink/shag. He was one a most direct and dynamic strikers with the ball at his feet. Only JFH & TH has come close to him since inb those fields IMO. Add to this the last seconds goal against the SCUM in the 4-3 match of the century and hes a player who will always be in my top ten.
Re: Stanley Victor Collymore If strikers are judged by the goals they score, then he was decent at best. He only scored over 20 goals once in his career.
I class Kieron Brady is one of the best strikers iv EVER seen and he scored about 7 goals in his entire career.
Agree, he was a great talent, but certainly didnt fulfil his potential. Two good feet, loved an early shot, great pace and strength too. Remember a lot of goals (particularly for Forest) where he picked up the ball 50 yards out, back to goal, turned and ran very diectly, before a pure strike flew into the net. Basically wasted his talent tbh. Both him and Matt Le Tissier, i would say the two most talented yet underachieving players i have observed in my 18 years watching football. Though personally, i remember his home debut for Leicester as being more of a highlight. A superb hat-trick, including a 25 yard volley, a header from almost the edge of the box, and a scruffy tap-in. Opponents? Those mackams.
MLT was constantly brilliant over his entire career. How can you say he underachieved? His refusal to move to a bigger club could be seen as a lack of ambition but he was still at the top of his trade IMO.
Collymore's career stats are at the bottom of :http://www.thefa.com/Features/EnglishDomestic/Postings/2003/07/56176.htm
I think he underachieved. He was 2 stone overweight his whole career, ran a total of 200 yards per match, yet still took the piss out of most opponents (us included, famously) on a regular basis. I think he did well, but i think with his talents, he could have done much much better. Should have won a lot lot more England caps, but all the managers thought "talented, but inconsistent and lazy". What did he get? about 10?
Le Tissier represents something that has been lost in the modern game: loyalty The fella scored 208 goals
Le Tiss was a "lazy" player. Im suprised he ever got a game for England. Who used to go to sleep at half time. (Really)
He was very good. I agree. I admire his loyalty. At no point have i made reference to his one-club stance. He underachieved, IN RELATION TO HIS TALENT
His talent kept Southampton in the Premiership which was an hell of an achievement at times esp when you have Francis Benali on your team.
Yes excellent. I agree again. But he did that, barely even trying. It was all just a laugh on a Saturday afternoon to him. Imagine if he had really tried! Do you think he achieved his full potential as a footballer?
We ordered 4 off those bastards, to Newburn Sports Centre, 430 last Sunday. Number 1 turned up at 500. Number 4 was about 520. Useless!
