St George's Day - Should it be a Bank Holiday??

Why should England be one of very few countries in the world that doesn't have a public holiday to celebrate their national day?

No, we've got a few bank holidays at this time of year anyway. If we were to have an extra one, I'd rather have it in July or October.

Is anyone doing anything for St Georges day?

Cos it seems a little silly how everyone gets Irish for Paddys day but does nowt for St Georges day.

He was from where Turkey is now.

"He is the patron saint of Canada, Catalonia, England, Ethiopia, Georgia, Greece, Montenegro, Portugal, Serbia, the cities of Istanbul, Ljubljana and Moscow, as well as a wide range of professions, organisations and disease sufferers."

He's the saintly equivalent of a slapper. I don't feel special any more.

    and Patrick wasn't Irish either!

I'm not religious and I doubt the majority of the board are, so no, I don't think we should celebrate it..

more to the point, celebrate what exactly..

I've read that he wasn't even a real person, what we know of him was just a collection of semi-fictional stories about several people that were put together for the masses. Bit like the new testament eh? ;)

It's just daft. Can we not pick someone that actually did something good for England.

I'd rather have a Beatles day ffs.
