Spurs swoop for Davids!!! fookin class signing Spurs Tottenham are poised to sign Edgar Davids from Inter Milan on a free transfer subject to a medical and agreeing personal terms. "He is one of the most versatile midfielders, a playmaker, a ball-winner with great stamina and huge charisma," said Spurs head coach Martin Jol. "It's terrific that he is joining us. He will lift the team's performance." The 32-year-old has 73 caps for Holland and counts Ajax, Juventus and Barcelona amongst his previous clubs.
good signing i reckon... aslong as its not a final payday for him ala kluivert, boksic (add any other foreign mercenaries) would like to see him do well in this country
coming from someone who supports a team who couldn't beat Blackburn to the signing of Bellamy i really respect your point of view
Not what he used to be at all, could be ok i suppose but wont set the rpem on fire thats for sure, he was very avarage last seaosn
Tottenham could have jumped the gun in announcing the capture of Edgar Davids from Internazionale. Spurs said on Tuesday that Davids had agreed to move to White Hart Lane, where he would undergo a medical and finalise personal terms on a free transfer from Inter. However, Davids' lawyer Rob Geerling says that several British clubs are still talking to Inter over a move for the tenacious Dutchman. Middlesbrough and Everton are also thought to be trying to sign Davids, and Geerling says the 32-year-old has not yet made a final decision. "Edgar has offers from several British clubs, who are talking to Inter," said Geerling. "Edgar is waiting to see what is happening with those clubs." Although Spurs do seem favourites, Geerling hinted that the lack of European football at the North Londoners could yet act against them, with both Boro and Everton involved in European competition. "[Martin] Jol knows the player and he knows his qualities, and it is vice versa for Edgar," Geerling told The Guardian. "Edgar likes to play at the highest level. There are pros and cons for all the relevant clubs." Spurs still seem confident of signing Davids, but they will want to tie up the deal as soon as possible to avoid losing out on the experienced midfield man.
Funny you should mention Bellamy, Davids makes him look like Gary Linekar. Davids - EURO 96 - sent home for publicly criticizing the Dutch coach, Guus Hiddink and accusing senior members of the squad of conspiring against him. 1996 he joined AC Milan on a Bosman free, but didn't settle there and broke his leg in a game against Perugia. 2000 - Banned for some time after testing positive for the steroid nandrolone, then, in his first game back, in a Uefa Champions League match against Celtic he was sent off.
him and seedorf also accused all of the white players and staff within the dutch national team of being racist a couple of years back!!!
i've seen him be great but i've also seen him be suspect. i rate him no more than i rated kluivert really - and i feel it's a similar style gamble. (similarly priced as well it seems) that's not to say it's bad business - i thought getting kluivert was a worthwhile risk, they dont always pay off, same applies here imo.
