    Speakers/Monitors of Choice?

£300 max, bedroom use only. Mainly for DJing with the hope of starting production after the summer. Hopeless when it comes to wattage nd ohmage nd all that bollocks, haha

Currently just use the old hi-fi at the minute. Whats the crack with using a amp etc...

    Cheers :cyber:

if its for the bedroom, and for djing, how loud can you have your current setup without having the police at the door?

5" drivers if you get a lot of shit / have old parents / care a lot about tinnitus

6" drivers if you can get away with it loud, but dont want to rattle the floor away from you

8" drivers if you do not give two fucks and would rather the room shook away from the rest of the house

you should be looking for nearfield monitors, active, no behringers or m-audio, you can do better at that price range - look at some tannoy, krk, events, genelec (some of those will only be 5" at £300)

with monitors its each to their own, there isnt a 'this one is best' cos everyone hears differently, and no doubt your room will be different to the next person too.

go and try some out at sound live or similar, take some music you're very familiar with, set a budget and go with your gut instinct, dont be swayed in to buying something more expensive if you dont feel they sound as good as something cheaper. dont be cheap though - its best to spend as much on you can on monitors as thats a major part of a system when producing

if you have money spare, invest in some room treatment, or at least something to put the speakers on, i use mopads and they make a lot of difference to the sound

last but not least, remember to count in to the budget for decent cables! :)

Great info there, I think it'd be the 6" drivers tbh.

Where is soundlive? It'd be great to test them first.

i have two sets of 6" monitors in here and i find they're more than enough for dj/audio spoiling :)

soundslive is on dean street, the lads in the studio section (to the right when you walk in - past the hippys) are sound and will keep you on the right track
