only venables was offered the job and turned it down... the main problem with o'neill was he wanted his own backroom staff which gibson said was unnaceptable and talks were halted. gibson said all along that behind the scenes will remain the same. curbishley didnt impress from what ive heard. southgate is a logical appointment as there arent many uk alternatives and i dont think gibbo wants to go abroad... i'll back southgate as there is experience behind him in round, harrison, crosby etc.
