Enjoy it! I'd love to go there at some point and do the whole Egypt to South Africa thing like Ewan McJedi done.

One of my best m8's lives in port Elizabeth. He hasn't had any trouble as far as i know, although it may be a bit different for a white tourist ;) I'll ask him what the crack is next time I speak to him. They have Great Whites in the waters.

i lived in jo'burg for 6 months a few years back and my dad used to live in port elizabeth. SA is pretty cool most places you go. an amazing country to see, like all places in the world though there are a few no go areas.. especially in jo'burg. just be a lil bit careful. try not to use taxi's, the bus is actually safer, watch your bag, and carry a decoy wallett with a few rands in it... just incase. have a nice trip mate.:)

thanks for that, I'm looking forward to it. I was told the drive from cape town to port elizabeth is spectacular. What I read about johannesburg with car jackings and people murdered for mobiles freaked me out a bit

SA is class. My brother was living out there (Cape Town/J'Burg) for over 10 years and visited a few times.

Last time i was there we drove CT to Knysna and did the bloukrans bungy (216 metres) which is well worth doing.

Never seen any bother when i've been out there but Cape Town is pretty touristy anyway.

Nightlife was good and they've got a good music scene going on.

All in all you'll have a mint time! :)

The inner cities of Cape Town and Port Elizabeth are generally quite safe, the opposite is true for Johannesburg.

Keep money in socks if traveling on public transport

    HIV prevalence is high

    Learn some South African Slang

Go to as many 'braais' as possible. South African's do the best BBQ's ever

If you are driving between Cape Town and PE (Port Elizabeth), do the [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garden_Route"]Garden Route - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:Tsitsikamma_Park.JPG" class="image"><img alt="" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/a3/Tsitsikamma_Park.JPG/200px-Tsitsikamma_Park.JPG"@@AMEPARAM@@commons/thumb/a/a3/Tsitsikamma_Park.JPG/200px-Tsitsikamma_Park.JPG[/ame]. I recommend Plettenburg Bay (surfers hangout) and Tsitsikamma.

Drink Castle Lager, failing that, Lion Lager or Carling Black Label.

Head to the waterfront in Cape Town, fucking lush. PE has a nice water front area too.

If you wanna try traditional beer (chibuku), be advised that it is made from fermented porridge

Do not venture into Hillbrow in Johannesburg under any circumstances.

Don't smoke mandrax. If you are offered 'tic' it means meth. Dagga means weed, as does mbanje.

Don't venture into townships around the Cape without a guide (unless you want a necklace)

If offered cocaine, be careful that it isn't heroin. I have a couple of saffa mates who have ended up in hospital making this mistake.

South Africa has a massive psy-trance scene (right up there with Brazil and Israel). Acid is freely available in South Africa

Try to head to h2o (see below)
