    Someone Please Help

Right i have a massive problem, i switched on my laptop today to get this message:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:

    \WINDOWSSYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup by using the original setup cd-rom
Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair

The problem i have is that i bought this laptop with no disks or garuntee from a friend. Is there anything i can do, or can anyone help me, does anyone have one of these disks or is there another way around this, i am basically panicking as this has all of my work over the past 2 years on it, it has my music all my ibiza photos, all of my coursework and i have not backed any of this up.

I am such an idiot, please someone help me

you'll need the XP disk, home or Pro depending on what version it is. Someone will have one.

Then, boot to the CD, select recovery console and run chkdsk /r

that'll fix any hard disk problems.

Then, boot to the CD again, select install XP, MAKE SURE YOU CHOOSE YOUR CURRENTLY INSTALLED VERSION of XP then let it re-install it. you'll need a genuine key too.

a bit tricky - but you'll be reet.

Bracken whatever you do don't fucking formatt it.

You need to make it a secondary disk and hook it up to another pc, then back all your stuff up onto another hard drive/DVD's.

Get a cheap external hard drive off dabs.com or something.
