Smokers may be refused NHS treatment

    Whats everyones take on this?

The barmy goverment now want to ban or charge smokers from getting treatment for illnesses caused by smoking.

    WTF?

Smoking related medical care cost the NHS 1.8 billion a few years back, while tabacco tax that the fasict 'new' labour raked in for the same year was in excess of 8 billion. And they have the CHEEK to say we're now going to charge u for health care? Not only have i paid NI tax for years and stupid amount of tax in tabs - u want to charge me for treatment? we paid 4 TIMES MORE IN TAX than it cost for the health care - that we're already supposed to be paying for!

Where will it end? Your a motorcyclist - thats dangerous. i'm going to charge you for your broken leg when u came off... it's your own fault.

The convervatives need to get some proper fucking policies together so i can vote for with a proper reason - rather than wasting it on them cause i want rid of Tony.

    good move imo....

may have to have certain regulations/etc... ie: if you have been warned about your health relating to smoking and you continue - you should be refused.. or sumthing...

just shoot people on sight who smoke..

pile of pants if u ask me, just another reason to pay private medical insurance.

As much as smoking aint good for you and i believe the government needs to ban it outright or legalise everything else out of hippocracy...

.... Smokers, Boozers and Drivers pay more than their fair share in tax. If a 5 quid packet of tabs a day sees 4 quid going into the governments coffers - then multiply that by 365 days a year and say 20-30 years before they go to hospital to die a painful death,.... then i reckon they have more than paid for it....

exactly, if they were more concerned about 'public health' then ban it. but nooooo... an 8 billion deficite and too much pressure for large tobacco organisations...

They couldn't ban it. Fuck knows how big a percentage of the country is addicted!

Would be like banning drink...just wouldn't be feasible.

but if they're so concerned about peoples health, to the point they're now saying it's 'costing the NHS billions' - ban it. give people 6 months so they know it's coming in and whollop!

there's nowt good about tabacco - or alcohol for that matter - but once again it's all down the the big evil of money. human greed wins everytime.

they're already cashing in by keepin it illegal as they get a shitload of money from the likes of chemical and pharmaceutical companies, who stand to lose shitloads if hemp cultivation is allowed. if it was allowed and licenced, the money they'd make from fees etc would be nowhere near the money they get from the likes of the big synthetic companies.

Well it would certainly lighten my work load!! :D

( i work on an NHS respiratory ward  )

I'm very anti smoking since doing respiratory work...see about 3 people a day die a VERY disturbing death. I wish they would do school trips to the wards to see this.

Thing that pisses me off is that we are so short staffed and busy yet the smoking patients expect us to take time out to escort them to the smoking are outside the hospital. I point blank refuse...I hate it...its not part of my job description. I think its crazy that they sit hacking their lungs up all day in agony and then expect me to take them for a smoke....NOT ME!!

this would be impossible to bring in fairly!

smoking is linked strongly to classes, so making smokers pay would further discriminate against the lower classes!

also, how would you treat the older people who the government encouraged to smoke during the war etc as it 'settled nerves'!

a good call on the tax thing, they could only do this if it was made illegal!

Hmmm. I totally hate smoking. Its revolting and just plain stooopid. :dunce: But I agree with Phil. You pay taxes for both buying ur tabs and on ur wages, youve earned your treatment as well as the early death that is likely from smoking.

This is a silly idea. :(
