Slow PC I'm trying to help my old dear speed up her PC. I've deleted all the obvious crap --- digital camera software and obvious downloads and it's helped a bit. I've also looked in most files for anything big and obvious but it's still very slow. She's got broadband and it used to run fairly quick so it's a bit strange. It's not the connection as the whole PC is taking ages to boot up, not just the internet or email. Any advice for clearing the comp of all ths shite ... ie. the easiest and most effective way of doing it. Any help appreciated folks
Do u defragment often? I've heard that its meant to be good, from a few people I used to work with, for speeding up machines. Whenever i do it theres no speed difference. I find the best way to keep a machine nice and fast is to format the drive and do a basic reinstall of windows every 6 months. This basically removes all the shite.. even the useful stuff. There are other methods but generally I feel this is the most effective. (Apart from an upgrade )
yeah, antivirus rapes your machine like, AVG is good, its small and its free and you can just use it as you please, unlike norton which does whatever it feels like!
Sounds like it might be that, she has shit loads of it. My old dear is a bit precaucious to say the least though has decided to just buy a new comp. Cheers.
