silver goal? Champions League games that go into extra-time will be decided by the new "silver goal" format next season. Uefa is set to introduce the decider as a replacement for the current golden goal system. Unlike the golden goal, which immediately concludes the match, the silver goal rule means the half of extra time in which a team scores will be played to a conclusion. As with the current system, if the game is level at the end of extra time the outcome will be decided on penalties. The decision to change the system was made at a two-day meeting of the European Club Forum, which represents over 102 clubs. Uefa decided last year to change the golden goal system and hope the new-look will be a fairer way of settling games. Golden goal gets the boot And they hope the system will eventually be incorporated worldwide for all tournaments. The silver goal will be used at the 2004 European Championships in Portugal. The last two European Championship finals have been decided by a golden goal. Germany's Oliver Bierhoff scored a golden goal against the Czech Republic in the 1996 final and France's David Trezeguet inflicted similar pain on Italy in the 2000 final. The meeting also considered artificial turf for pitches. Uefa chief executive Gerhard Aigner said five clubs will be used in a research project on artificial pitches before any final conclusions would be reached. don't know if its complicating things too much:spangled:
Will Man Utd be effected by this? or will there games still be played with rule if in doubt play until Man Utd win.
it was good enough 4 george best, pele, maradona and all the rest, so y change it, uefa just try and fukk the game up when its perfectly alrite, they must like there 2 day meetings, thinking this shit up.
Ah right, no ay I could of worked it out. In my opinion?? Took me a while but I figured that one me self.
In a way this is doing that. The problem with the golden goal was that the majority sat back and defended and tried to break and get a goal as they were scared of conceeding. This defidedthe point of its introduction to make extra time more exciting. Now with it being a definate 15 mins initially there is still chance to come back from a goal down, therefore no need to play defensive!
