    Shutdown Problem

Recently aqcuired a new laptop and it was fine at first but it has decided not to shutdown anymore.

When i select 'shutdown' all the icons disappear but then the computer just freezes and doesn't shut down. I've googled the problem but have had no luck....the only advice given is to download the latest Windows Update and this should solve the probem but seen as though I already have these updates this is not the answer.

    Any suggestions?:)

Some programs and services can take a long time to close sometimes...

How long do you wait before turning it off manually?

Have you ran anti spyware and anti virus scans?

Nah, i've ran virus scans and spyware checks.

I've also left the laptop on all night after selecting shutdown but I still have the problem.

something will be running, maybe a virus, maybe spyware

installed any news harware recently? put new software on, i.e. realpayer, quicktime, winamp, etc?

i'd get hijackthis, then post the report it produces.

....this is looking a bit suspect!

might be nvidia - but it doesn't say where it's running from

what about Remote Packet Capture Protocol v.0 (experimental) (rpcapd) - Unknown owner - %ProgramFiles%\WinPcap\rpcapd.exe" -d -f "%ProgramFiles%\WinPcap\rpcapd.ini (file missing)
    - some corrupt entry - might be worth sorting that.

try disabling them in msconfig and reboot.

nwiz is associated with Nvidia graphics!

You've got fuck loads of processes running anyway does ya comp run ok anyway?

I would disable most of em.... i have bare minimum running in background.....

Does Windows Defender hog ya CPU? it has been known too so it may be that is doing something when ya shutting down.... C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MsMpEng.exe

there dont look to be anything suspect at all....

You got McAfee AND AVG installed? (only need one really)

Try and disable non essential processes from starting... not like they take hours to load up anyway... like quicktime and itunes helper etc...

Yeah it runs fine apart from it not shutting down. I thought i'd got rid of Mcaffee but it appears not.

Anyways, problem has been solved...a new update was installed for windows last night when I left my comp on and it now shuts down:)
