Sheperd: Deluded? On reading an article on skysports.com I came across this quote from Freddie S regarding management applications: "We have been swamped with interest from some of the best managers in the game, which is not surprising as this is one of the top eight managerial jobs in the world." It's sounding like he's saying Newcastle United are one of the top eight teams in the world.. Barcelona, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Roma, Man Utd, Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, Bayern Munich... there's 9. I agree there's a large national fanbase, high attendance, excellent finances etc but I feel he's slightly wide of the mark there. Source: SkySports
Re: Sheperd: Deluded? :tut: no they do not have a large national fanbase - it is a localised one. The top 4 teams for fan base (according to Deloitte & Touche) are: Man Utd Liverpool Goons Spurs All 1M+ fans Sorry chaps, you have to be around the top league a little longer to have a national fanbase. Their finances are not secure either. Its certainly one of the top 8 managerial jobs in England, I will agree with that though
@Benson - apologies for incorrect info. I was trying to give them some credit. Deluded I think mate. To pick up a point from Benson, I certianly feel it's one of the top eight jobs in Great Britain but the world? :tut: Let's be realistic.
never give em credit mate, give an inch they take a mile its a pity spence aint about for some polite banter
Benson if you can get a link to the D & T report you read I would be intrested in reading it. According to the D & T report I read Newcastle are the 9th biggest.
Re: Re: Sheperd: Deluded? Which 1 of them 4 clubs with a 1m+ fanbase has approx 1m+ fans who are housebound
Still waiting Benson This is what I found: Manchester United have retained their position as the world's wealthiest football club but Arsenal have overtaken Liverpool in the rich list. United's turnover of £175million in 2002/3 keeps them ahead of Italian giants Juventus and AC Milan, as well as Real Madrid, in the Deloitte and Touche study of revenue coming into clubs. Liverpool, though, have fallen out of the top five from fifth place a year ago and are now in eighth overall with £104.4million, just behind Arsenal (£104.6million), whose position will be strengthened when they move to a new stadium in 2006. Celtic make it into 18th place with an annual income of £60.8million but there is no place for Rangers who dropped out of the top 20 two years ago. Despite their terrible financial problems, Leeds are rated among the top 20 clubs in the world in terms of income and are in 16th place with revenues of £64million during 2002/3. Dan Jones, director of the sports business group at Deloitte, said: "We look at turnover, all the money coming in from day-to-day football business operations - the best publicly available measure of financial muscle. "We don't consider outgoings or what someone might pay to buy the club. We use turnover because if a club has large revenues, and manages them well, the club will become rich. The well-publicised financial difficulties of some of these clubs are not caused by lack of revenue." English and Italian clubs dominate the rich list, making up 12 of the top 20 and Premiership clubs generate far more matchday income than their European rivals from gate receipts, corporate hospitality and matchday food and merchandise sales. The big Italian clubs owe their dominance to the fact they negotiate their own TV rights deals - Juventus and AC Milan have the largest broadcasting incomes in world football - but perform poorly in terms of matchday income, which accounts for 40% of Manchester United's total revenue and is more than three times their closest Italian rival. Jones believes leading football clubs will continue to rake in huge income from television despite a slight slump in the market. He added: "Broadcast income is the largest single source for most of the clubs and despite the widespread speculation of a collapse in media values, we think this is unlikely." The list also shows that United are the richest team of any sport in the world - next in line are baseball's New York Yankees with revenue of £170million. American football team Tampa Bay Buccaneers, headed by the Glazer family who also hold a growing stake in Manchester United, generated income of £102million. Deloitte Football Rich List, published in conjunction with FootballBusiness International Position - (previous year) - Club - income in sterling - (income in euros) 1 (1) Manchester United 175.8 (251.4) 2 (2) Juventus 152.7 (218.3) 3 (4) AC Milan 140 (200.2) 4 (6) Real Madrid 134.7 (192.6) 5 (3) Bayern Munich 113.8 (162.7) 6 (12) Inter Milan 113.6 (162.4) 7 (8) Arsenal 104.6 (149.6) 8 (5) Liverpool 104.4 (149.4) 9 (13) Newcastle 97.1 (138.9) 10 (7) Chelsea 93.6 (133.8) 11 (10) Roma 92.6 (132.4) 12 (15) Borussia Dortmund 86.7 (124.0) 13 (9) Barcelona 86.3 (123.4) 14 (n/a) Schalke 04 82.9 (118.6) 15 (16) Tottenham 66.9 (95.6) 16 (11) Leeds 64.3 (92.0) 17 (14) Lazio 62.2 (88.9) 18 (17) Celtic 60.8 (87.0) 19 (20) Olympique Lyonnais 58.9 (84.3) 20 (n/a) Valencia 56.3 (80.5).
Spencer - that is the top 20 "richest" clubs. Notice that Spurs are the only club in the top 20 not to have taken part in the Champions League...which only goes to show what we will be worth when we are punching our weight These were the statistics that I was referring to - top 20 best supported teams. Notice you are a credible 7th: I thank you :flowers:
spotter's badge I stated earlier in the thread that I was referring to a "national" fanbase. Scottish teams are irrelevant
That report is the top 20 richest clubs in the world Is that your D & T report? And to be fair your average may be better than ours but we beat you on total number of fans & as we are now packing in approx 52,000 for every Premiership game we will soon overtake you on the average as well. Benson dont belittle Newcastle just because you choosed the wrong North London club.
How old is that list and who made it? The Ironops hasnt existed for over 100 years Tbh you are both reading these reports incorrectly. Neither how well supported you are or how much money you make in a financial year independently determines how big the club is, tho they are very big factors
