Setting up 2 student accounts I'm with Barclays atm, and they are absolute idiots at times. One guy at my local branch tells me one thing, the people at the one in town tell me something else (and happily agreed up up my overdraft to 1000, but i said i only wanted 500 for now), then the people over the phones told me I shouldn't be allowed more than £200 and any further increases have been disabled until my loans are in the bank. I want to set up an account with another bank and pay off the barclays one so I don't have to deal with their shit anymore. Natwest have just told me over the phone that they will happily set up an account for me today, but they need to see a recent bank statement to make sure I don't have a student account anywhere else. Is there a way to get around this? My m8 has two student accounts that he's maxed out but i dunno how he did it or who he's with. As soon as I get my second one sorted out, I'll be getting rid of Barclays asap.
Tell them you're wanting to transfer over from Barclays to Natwest and you want to close your barclays account. They shouldn't have a problem with that. They'll only kick off if you're trying to keep two student overdrafts open at once.
Ah I didnt know u could do that. I'll see if anyone is willing to transfer the £500 over and give me an extra £200 on top I doubt any of them will though.
Your UCAS acceptance letter. I've just given Halifax a ring and they said all I need to bring in is my driving license, passport and ucas letter. Got an appointment tomorrow. Not sure if i should just get the second account, or tell them I wanna transfer money over from the other account with barclays. I really need some money to keep me going until my loans come in.
theoretically you can't, but two of my housemates did it. i'm not sure how, but it is possible. go to natwest, show them you don't have a student account, open one, then sort out a student overdraft with barclay's. in first year i had two accounts, an hsbc current account and a natwest student account. my loan went into my hsbc account and i still chinned the overdraft with natwest. be careful with that though, if you hardly pay anything into the natwest one for a year they won't let you extend your overdraft further until you start using it regularly (they're fine with it once you have money going in though).
I already have an overdraft with Barclays. I want a second one to a) pay off the Barclays one cos they're doing my head in, and b) a little bit more money to spend between no and the start of my course. Trouble is, I've just realized that I've lost my acceptance letter :s
I had two student account's in my first year of uni... maxed one overdraft then went into Lloyd's after a couple of pints in the union and got another with a 1500 overdraft within an hour or so then back to the Union. Was a good day! Doubt it's still the same procedure now.
I just got one with Halifax, no questions asked other than 'do you have a student account anywhere else?'. The only thing that nearly fucked everything up was when he offered to transfer my barclays account over, with a free £50 bonus for doing so. Having no reason to keep the barclays account, it was difficult trying to sound genuine when I turned down the £50 lol. I said I'd rather have two accounts with different banks so that one is for leisure and one is for hard times only. Thought he was gonna tell me to sod off and come back with bank statements lol. Only bummer is I have to put £100 into the account to activate it, and it's an overnight activation so I can't use it until Monday at the earliest. When do student loans come in btw?
I currently have one with Lloyds. Don't ring them, just go into the bank and tell them you want to setup a student account. When they ask if you have a student account elsewhere, just say 'no'.
it'll either be the second day of freshers' week or the week after when you start properly. make sure you register on your course as soon as you can, and then you'll get it at the first opportunity.
I had no problem opening four, you just have to lie and say you haven't got one elsewhere. Seemed like a good idea at the time but seriously regretting it now because I'll be paying the fuckers off until Im about 50
