the government is going for this bill today.
It is supposed to target 'gangsters fraudsters traffickers and drug dealers'.

It means they would be able to say where they go, who they meet, stop them accessing their bank accounts and the internet. They would also be able to seize their money and property

An order would be imposed by the courts if they believed ON THE BALANCE OF PROBABILITY that the suspect had acted in a way which was likely to help a serious crime, or might do so IN THE FUTURE.

It is modelled on the restriction orders currently in place for terrorists


And this is the way our freedoms disappear IMO.
They start off with one thing that does away for the need for a trial before punishment ie 'the terrorists' because no one has any sympathy with them so they are an easy target. Then they use that exception as a principle by which they can target another group 'the gangsters' who nobody cares about either.
Pretty soon the right we all have to a fair trial in a court of law is only there at the discretion of the government of the day and we have lost something that our ancestors fought and died for.
It's so easy to lose our freedom and so hard to get it back once it's gone

whats the alternative?

the alternative is to not allow someone to be convicted and punished without a fair trial. If we can't have that then what are we defending in our wars on terrorism and organised crime and drugs?

i think you've misunderstood the demographic the bill will effect...

it's a glorified asbo, its not targeting Jews... its targeting troublesome adults.

well the scenario is this... someone fingers you as a drug dealer. could be for allsorts of reasons .....grudge, saving their own skin, or you are causing someone in the government or police bother....whatever.
you can now be confined to your house, banned from having a computer with internet access, told who you can and cannot see, have your home and all your assets seized by the state, not be allowed access to your own bank account. all this can happen and can carry on for as long as they feel like it and there is nothing you can do about it because you do not have to be found guilty of anything. there will be no trial. They only have to convince a high court judge that you might commit some crime in the future.
Do you not think that this is wide open to abuse by those in power?

I know this is not targeted at jews, it's terrorists and drug dealers at the moment but it could be aimed at any bogey man the government chooses. In 1938-9 this sort of legislation was brought in against the Jews cos they were that state's chosen bogeymen, people said well it's OK it's just Jews, it doesn't affect me

its not targeted at your local pill pusher... its aimed at real criminals....

the cps, high courts, serious fraud office and customs prosecutions offices are those that can exercise the order... its a serious bill for serious criminals.
