Sending emails to mbl phones as txt messages??

Rob will know all about this :cool2:

One of my systems is used by a firm of commodity brokers dealing cotton internationally and they want the software to send them a txt message at 5pm (EST) with the closing futures price from NY. I can get the prices I need and can send emails no problem but how do I send an email as an SMS to a mobile phone number.

The yanks said I can send an email to <number>@serviceprovider.com eg 07984123456@t-mobile.com but it doesn't work

    any ideas anyone?

    thanking you

Maybe theres some online services you can subscribe to that allow you to feed messages and numbers as recipients to - either by email or some other web service?

There is, powertext.co.uk ;) I'm looking for something that cost nowt though.

Out of interest how much would it be Rob? I'd be sending about a dozen emails every working day.

John, I'd be sending as an email but needs to be recieved as an SMS, can you do this?

yes m8 but it's restricted to the normal 160 characters as per SMS. Anything more than that or attachments will need to be viewed on-line.

160 characters would be plenty, and plain txt is what I want, no attachments.

So how exactly do you do do this do you reckon?? From what I've seen and heard (from Rob who runs a business sending txt messages) this can't be done the way you say as you need a gateway somewhere, therefore cost. Exactly how would I send an email which arrives as an SMS on my mobile phone which is T-mobile??
