Time to remove all funds out of this bank out of fucking principle I think although I would imagine a lot of banks will be due to introduce similiarly ridiculous rates trying to con us out of more money once again.

Instead of paying a percentage on your overdraft or a capped monthly fee if you are overdrawn with not just halifax but any bank of scotland group bank you'll be charged a quid a day for every day your over drawn.

Plus the fact they will also offer no interest on your current account for being in credit. So you loose a quid a day for being in the red and get fuck all for being in the black.

I'm changing banks from Halifax. I pay them £12.50 a month for the ultimate reward account to cover a few insurances and wont be paying them to go over drawn every now and again. Last month i went £10 over my 100 pound over draft limit, yes it was my fault as i never checked that 2 orders i'd made on amazon had been taken then a few days later took the money out. Amazon tried to take the money 2 days before pay day, i didn't know as i didn't think i had went over my limit (Had money i could have transferred from my savings online in an instant to cover being over my limit) and got charged £35 twice because it was two transactions that came over my limit.

    They can fuck off.

I was in Halifax yesterday and they were trying to sell me the Ultimate account and said when this all goes ahead you'll have a 300quid free overdraft

does anyone know what the crack ended up being with the whole re-claim bank charges carry on?

It's still dragging it's arse through the courts. The banks had appealed against the last decision from what I remember. It'll take a few more years before it's all cleared up.

Why does everyone in the UK think they have a right to FREE BANKING

The banks provide a service and have a right to charge for it.

Most other countrys charge for banking, we have had cloaked charges for a good few years (£35 late fees etc) there made up for free banking had by others, now the loops holes have gone everyone going to have to pay.

Why shouldn't we get free banking? They make an absolute killing off us in interest and get pretty much nothing back on a current account.

Sure they lend you money if you need a mortgage or loan or over draft etc but if you just have a bank account and have no loans with them why shouldn't you be entitled to bank with them free so they can make a load of money off them holding your money for you?

I'm annoyed about it cos people like me who have never gone over there overdraft or had any bank charges are having to suffer for all the idiots who can't control their money and get bank charges all the time. They are doing as they can no longer charge £25 (if thats right) when people screw up!! It's a joke and they should just charge the people who always incur charges.... but I think it's the way that UK banking is going now!!

You really don't have a clue what you're talking about.

When someone goes overdrawn (over their limit), the banks dish out a penalty charge. It's been proven in the courts that this charge is unfair and disproportionate (i.e. it doesn't put the bank out of pocket by £25/35 every time you go over your limit). If it did, you'd probably find that they'd decline the transaction for whatever you're trying to pay for.

The banks are fleecing customers who go over their agreed limits. Some of these people are poor or on low incomes and can't afford it. Thats why its gone to the courts and thats why people are getting their money back. Granted, some of these people are just careless with money, but it doesn't change the fact that its wrong.

No I don't have a clue... I've just worked for the bank for many years!!

I can appreciate that the charges were/are a bit on the heavy side, but what I am pissed off about is how even though I am on low income I've still manage to never go over my overdraft etc, but now I am paying the price for all the people who did :(
