    Just the whole idea really.

I don't see what the difference would really be between the proposed new SPL 2nd league, and the current SFL 1st Div??? It's basically going to be pretty much the same teams playing in more or less the same format.

It wasn't intended to wind you or ianmc up, I just genuinely don't see what they're aiming at?

Im not sure what the % of clubs at the moment if Div1 are full time but these changes would certainly increase opportunities for young Scottish lads. Also I know there has been problems in the past with clubs being prepared for stadia requirements when promoted to the SPL.

I think the points Ive quoted are all +ve's for Scottish youngsters & development.

It also looks to me like a marketing ploy to attract more revenue for the clubs playing in the league. The money they get at the moment is a pittance. In fact Im not sure the 1st Division gets any tv revenue anymore.

    In fact
Going back a few years when I was in Jockland the 1st Div always had a weekend highlights program and TV revenue for the clubs.

Looks like the driving force for change.

    All good points

Why can't or hasn't the SFL tried to implement these standards and requirements though? Are the SFL and SPL in effect two rival sets of football leagues?

Im not sure how that works.

Does it not worry you how the EPL & your national team is heading? I think England are in a similar situation to Scotland in 98 (obviously better).

Too many foreigners playing in the EPL and not enough quality youngsters coming through.

I dunno. Seems to me like there's plenty of quality youngsters coming through and available to clubs, but because of the Chelseas and Arsenals no other club can really afford to take a risk on youngsters and give them a run in the prem. So no young English players are getting the top-level developement they need, apart from the odd case when a good youngster ends up at a smaller team like Everton (Rooney) or Borough (Downing) and they have to play more through necessity than choice.

The cream will always rise to the top .

Look at boro they have loads of good kids coming through . Newcastle have Taylor and rammage , man u have richardson they were even kind enough to bring in a jock to devolp for you .

The influx of foriegn players in certaion clubs i would agree has halted progree - Arsenal , portsmouth being two but I still think there are enough good players coming through . Strikers are a concern but they will come through !
