    Sata

Im after upgrading my machine and as I look at new MBs they all seem to have only 1 IDE port and 2/4 SATA ports.

(My current MB has 2 IDE ports and i run 2 HDs and 2 optical drives from them)

I have no experience of SATA but it looks like this is the way to go... can standard DVD writers etc... connect via SATA aswell as the HDs?

Can you use both happily too ie. HD on SATA and optical drives IDE?

As I say I've only ever used IDE cables til now.... :spangled:

the new HP machines we've been buying are SATA only - both HD and optical drives now come as sata.

bit of pain when there's NO IDE sockets at all

oh, i forgot, 1 sata socket means 1 device, rather than 2 IDE devices per IDE channel

use the 1 IDE port for your old optical drive till it fails - get all new STA HD's if u get that mobo

same problem i had, i just bought a 350gig SATA HD and transfered all my shite off the old hard drive on to the SATA one, shame it had to be done.

or get a PCI IDE controller, they are your only options

Given that PCI IDE controllers are under a tenner, I wouldn't worry!
