Routine - Newcastle Arts Centre Saturday April 12th Knifehandchop (Canada) Smurf (oldskool techno) Dr Venkman Enjay. KNIFEHANDCHOP... At the tender age of 21 he’s already had records released on labels such as Kid 606’s Tigerbeat 6 and north Londons’ Irritant, and his trademark ‘sped up ragga-rap and gabber’ style has earned him more than a hand-full of plays from Mr John Peel. Mashing up dancehall lyrics and break neck drum n bass/gabber beats, his single ‘Bounty Killer Killer’ was described by Pitchfork as “a track so hot it’d make your grandmother throw down on the dancefloor”. And that’s not all, in his short time producing, Knifehandchop has proved he has more than one string to his bow, as described by Frightlab “Hot to death digi-dancehall, meets gabber, meets pseudo-drum n bass, meets ghetto house/miami bass, meets hip hop, meets IDM, meets techno.” Knifehandchop will be playing a ‘live’ 1 hour 30 minute set for Routine with the aid of his trusty laptop, comprising mostly of his own material, but occasionaly mixing in some of his fave tracks by others. When someone’s last record was described as “a block of C-4 on wax” by BSOTS reviews, are you really going to miss out on seeing them live? This is the last ever 'repetative beats' night at The Black Swan/Arts Centre.
