Rome!? I'm about to book flights to go to Rome during my Octover half term break. Hotels seem to be really expensive though!! The area around the 'Termini' train station seems to be our best bet at the minute (in terms of getting from Ciampino Airport and visiting the main sights). Just wondering if anyone has been before and has any recomendations for hotels they have stayed in that were pretty accessible from the airport and within a good distance away from the major touristy sights??? Thanks!
ps) forgot to add, that we dont really mind staying in a B&B or a hostel as long as I dont have to share a bathroom!!
Here's a short destination guide from Ba. Not sure if its much use as i've not been to Rome yet. http://eventsuk.britishairways.com/...tination&loc_id=134454&sub_section=Experience
I went about 18 months ago. Think we stayed in Trastevere, which was decent. Much less touristy (and cheaper) but still walkable. Its on the western side of the river, while most of Rome's centre (ie all the touristy sights) are on the eastern side of the River. I suppose it depends on what you wanna be near to. But the public transport is pretty good, including an underground and some trams. So if you are near a station everything will be accessable. It isnt a massive centre. Everything is probably within 2 miles of each other.
PM Granty Sam, sure him and his lass went not so long ago or PM Rach or Pete, sure they went recently too. xxx
Haha, only 4 last year!! Only had 2 this year so far so trying to make up for it! Thanks for the info people....we're liking the look of the Nicholas Inn, still undecided though. Its never normally this hard to find a hotel!
I stayed at a place called 'Hotel Lancelot' on Via Capo de Africa (or similar - can't remember exactly). It was a very short walk from the Colliseum and the Roman Forum. It was ok - rooms were a bit battered and it seemed to be popular with Irish priests. As long as you're near an underground stop it won't really matter where you stay, and the buses weren't too bad to work out either. Watch out for the pickpockets - saw gangs of young teenage girls lifting stuff from people.
