A fella has just retired where I work and it has got me thinking.

I'm 24 now and with the way things are round the world nowadays I cant help but think when I'm 65 it's not going to be worth retiring as there isn't going to anything to enjoy but family.

Having said that, I have to make it to 65 first!

What is everybody elses thoughts on this sort of stuff?

i once thought if i won the lotto i would retire straight away
ok u could have some fun with ur money for a while but wouldnt u get bored, personaly i would get bored very easy.

when im 65 and retire i hope i have enough money to maybe live out a few dreams i have..

Most people inthere mid-twenties wont be retiring until we are 68 due to new govenment legislation introduced not so long ago

Not sure what the cut off date exactly is though

you'd have to be earning a heck of a lot to retire early, especially with the state of pensions at the moment. it'll be 70 i reckon by the time we get near that age.

There's loads to do when you're old - it's if u can be arsed/able to

I'm hoping to retire at around 60. I want a nice little house in the countryside where we can grow our own food and keep animals.

how on earth could you get bored?

You could do pretty much anything you wanted


go travelling to every single country on earth
go into space
buy wicked houses and then burn them down
give your mates £100 to punch themselves in the balls and stuff

for me its like 40 years, i can't begin to imagine what the world will be like in 40 years!! who knows what we will be doing.

Getting a nice little retirement home on a spacestation on the moon maybe!!

I think the key to it is having a job you aren't desperate to retire from.

Well id like to have my own surveying / building company when im about 30 but i couldnt say id retire at 65 im a workaholic even my days off have to be geared around doing something

Gives her life a purpose I'd imagine.

when I first started work I was working with a bloke who was 64 and had worked for there all his life. He was really regretful about not doing what he had wanted to do and thought he had wasted his life. it had a really big effect on me. I vowed to always take any opportunity that came my way and mostly I have. It's too late when you get to retirement age to look back and wish.
