    Cheers Danny

Well impressed with the review. Not sure what vocal tune he's on about cos I was upstairs with Titch all night. I'll check it out tho :)

Pike: Apparently the lad is from Newcastle and runs that Dork FM night at Kings Manor/Moot/Stout Fidler according to Geoff. Tbf he does have 80% of town summed up with that opening paragraph

Nice one Vance. Still, I'm not sure if Newcastle is/has been starved of nights/music. I think most angles have been covered to be honest but the problem is lack of clientèle coupled with lack of decent available venues.

Newcastle is nowhere near size of London, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham or Glasgow. I think we do ok for our size but cannot generally blame promoters for the lack of trying imo. For example look at nights like Balance who put most on some really decent house/tech line ups but have then dropped of the radar.

Then you get nights like Wax On putting Villalobos on and getting reported low numbers.

Me and Scott have been wanting to put on a house/techno legend on for some time as well and have discussed with length with agent. We have dates pencilled in and we hope to pull it off soon but always at the back of our mind is the concern about people in Newcastle not turning out for him and the risk of losing a load of cash.

As I say, I think the reason for maybe not being as upfront as other cities is the general lack of underground clubbers and good venues - its not for the want of promoters trying.

Sorry for hijacking thread a bit :)

But it's not just the bookings that qualifies a night to be as he say's a 'quality night' - no one can argue that there's not consistently good bookings on in Newcastle but the fact is the night's just arent cutting the mustard number's and atmosphere wise so in terms of that I would agree with his opening statement entirely. Even less now Shindig have stopped going weekly, you's arent putting on party's regulaly and a few other night's that have just decided that it's not worth it at the minute. Summers are always pretty shit for clubbing but this one's guna be dier in the NE.

Your housey techno legend sound's quality Danny, go for it, but wait till September so everyone can get involved :king:

I just read the bit about not nights not booking forward thinking DJs. Point taken about the whole package though. But its a funny one as the main reason the better/more established nights are cutting down is down to numbers/cash so if people are not attending these nights then they cannot keep on booking quality acts - kind of a double edged sword.

Although we did not leave Cosmic due to numbers, me and Scott both feel it is the best decision we have ever made. Last 3 parties at Worldies have been full with good atmosphere. and we have another 4 sorted before year is out. I think we were starting to lose edge on a monthly basis - fuck knows how Shindig have done weekly for so long. Also means you don't have to look at fillers - sure Scott and Scooby will be buzzing that they can just focus on the bookings that they really want.

Same goes for you guys, if you went more regularly then it could maybe spoil the vibe that you have created.

It is a shame the whole thing though but not much we can do about it a mo. As said the other week I still think the city is crying out for a quality 500/600 capacity venue which would cater for these type of nights.

    :)

clubbing got killed by the bars getting late license's end of story... clubs will never again be the exclusive hideaways of people wanting to stay out late and get smashed.. hence Digtals problem... its cant fill the place weekly, its TOO BIG. Small clubs for music snobs is the way forward

Alot of people just got bored of it as well ... Look at the number of people on here that have went back to the regular 'band' scene after a 2-4 year dabble with the dark/light side.

great write up lads, top marks.......

agree with most of what you say Danny, however numbers are down in clubland across the country not just Newcastle. The problem with Newcastle is geographically we don't have a the catchment area that places like Leeds, Manchester, Glasgow have. All these places are a hub with many filter cities feeding into them. We at a push have Sunderland...........
