Renaming PCs on the network

    Renaming PCs on the network

    Never had any trouble with this in the past, but i'm trying to change my pc to be my details as opposed to the previous user. I get the following error message:

    try revmoving from the domain first, then rename it. nmake sure no drives are mapped or something.

    Fidds/Harry are network admins, they might have seen it b4... i've never seen that one... technet it!

    have u added urself to the server 1st with all your permissions etc ?

    i think there's a different message if it can't create the computer account.... is it NT or W2K ?

    Yeah i've been a user for a while, but this particular machine was used by someone else before me so i need to change it to my name.

    Drives are mapped etc, so i'll try disconnecting them and removing the domain and see what happens.

    Is the new name of the computer on the server as well tho e.g. :

    my computername is PAULSPC

    but my login is paul.mc

    both have seperate entrys on the server .
