    remote screen thingy

    Im puzzled.

I have a computer, which i want to put the net connection through and have as a base for ness and my laptops. This will be all be connected wirelessly with a linksys router.

Ness was explainin to me today that you dont have to have a monitor - you can have a remote screen thingy where you go on the network find the PC and bring up its desktopy-majiggy.

you can just access that PC all the time, without having to have a monitor plugged in to it, so you can see the desktop on one of the laptops.

    True/False?

    Diagram/Explaination?

    Magic/Everyday?

    :)

Very simple, VNC or something similar will do it. Even windows remote connection which is built in with xp will do it.

    VNC is what you need.

It comes in two parts, a server and a client.

Install the server on the machine you want to control & run it.

Install the client/viewer on the machine you want to use to control the other.

Run the viewer, type in the name of the machine running the server (as long as it's connected to the network) and hey presto ;)

Just stick with the Microsoft Remote Desktop client for a small LAN, easiest one and zero cocking about required.

    Start > Run > mstsc

Enter the IP address of the PC you want to connect to....fannys your aunt. Use it every day at work.

For accessing via the internet...do as the MoS tells you to!!

PS - If you have a router you don't have to run the internet connection through a dedicated PC :)

That might not have been the only reason for having it like...but you dont need it if it is.
