Reinstalling Windows Right people, i wanna totally get rid of everything on my laptop and install windows again from scratch. Whats the easiest way of doing it? Everything i wanna keep is already backed up and nice and safe on my desktop and on cd.
put windows cd in change setting so it reads from cd first then do everyting it says format fat 32 drive
karl was almost right jus make sure ur laptop boots off cd 1st (change boot order in BIOS) then boot from the xp disk...its step by step jus delete the partition thats already there then create another one...format it with NTFS file system.
well - windows will be installed fresh. bear in mind ANYTHING u installed yourself will need re-installing afterwards as well mate..
Make sure you've got all your device drivers first. Go to the laptop's makers homepage, find the model, download most of the drivers - XP sometimes doesn't have all the drivers for all the devices first time... gfx, modems, etc....
Boot to a Dos prompt and type: C:\format\u (slashes might be he other way round - I'm used to UNIX) For an unconditional format - it will wipe everything - leaving one clean machine.
u can jus boot off the windows xp cd mate. that gives u the option to delete and recreate any partition tables then format ya new partitions. its easy peasy. you'll see once u start it. as mos says tho - maybe worth checking u have all ur drivers. unless u have a 2nd machine u can get on internet incase u need to after.....
