    Reformatting PC

I really need to do this with mine, its got so much stuff on it which I dont need.

    Whats the best way?

Im scared its going to go crazy on me.

I wanna back up my music onto some cd's only certain bits cos I have too much to do it all.

Has anybody done it before? Just wondering!

Also it keeps saying my version of windows keeps saying it isnt real or something a message comes up everytime i load my pc up! It was installed at a shop but it was very ropey so wouldnt surprise me.

Somebody who is good with computers help me out please I just want it to be fast and get rid of all the stuff i dont need :)

Including a lot of music/pics/ etc I just dont need anymore.

get hold of a Windows XP cd with service pack 2 integrated into it. Reboot your pc with it in the cd drive and go from there.. it'll ask you to choose an option such as format. Basically, format then install indows on a selected partition (drive or section of a drive such as C:, D: etc..)

Just make sure you have a serial key or 5 so you don't run into any problems when it asks you for one. Some windows cd's don't ask for a cd tho.

An external hard drive would probably be easier because then you could just put all the stuff you wanted to keep on there instead of having loads of CDs. It's probably quicker as well. They're canny cheap now too.

Keep all your music and anything that is important on a seperate drive then when you need to formatt just wipe the one with windows on.

The shop you have got it from has loaded a dodgy version of XP on your PC. The message you describe is the validation check. Don't worry though you can download a small program that gets rid of it for you. If it happens again drop me a PM and i'll send you it.

External Hard Disks are the way forward for backing stuff up.. I've always used internal drives.. but externals are far more portable!

The best thing to do.. if you can is to buy and enclosure such as an Icy box and then a Hard Disk seperate.. this means that in future if you want a bigger drive you can simply unplug your current drive from the enclosure and put in a bigger disk

however if you want a simple ready for ya external drive you'd be hard pressed to find a beeter deal than a Western Digital 250GB My Book or a 320GB Western Digital My Book from overclockers..

The external Hard drive page can be found here..

If you just need to backup for now then just buy a few DVDrs and use them.. at least then you always have a hard copy backup :)

Also.. let Jamie know I'll reply to his PM at the weekend.. I've been working my ass off at work this week :(
