Red Ken defiant over Nazi jibe

London Mayor Ken Livingstone has refused to apologise to a Jewish reporter or his newspaper over "Nazi" comments - and instead launched a fresh attack.

Mr Livingstone likened reporter Oliver Finegold of the London Evening Standard to a Nazi "concentration camp guard" as he was pushed for a comment by the journalist following a party two weeks ago.

He had been expected to issue a retraction today following increasing pressure from Jewish groups, Holocaust survivors and the Prime Minister.

Instead, he not only defiantly stood by his comments but launched a fresh attack on the reporter, the newspaper and its sister paper the Daily Mail.

He said: "My words were not intended to cause such offence." But he said he would not take a lesson about anti-Semitism from the Daily Mail.

he shouldn't apologise, even if it was a slightly drunken, a bit offensive, very stupid thing to say. It's just the right-wingers scenting blood but they won't get it. Only problem is it gives them a get out of jail free card for years

I liked his little rant at the Daily Mail/Evening Standard

"the victims may change but the intolerance, hatred and fear pervade every issue of the papers"
