I think it is. I don't think it's right for a DJ to play illegal MP3's...can't it get the club they're playing at into trouble as well?
It was Gigi DiAugustino by the way. Is he one of the Mauro Picotto kind? If he has the originals, then I don't see any reason why he wouldn't be able to copy them for his own use. Wouldn't surprise me if it was against the law, though.
you are allowed to make a backup copy of the original if you do own it. i do that with all my really old valuable vinyl that i wouldn't dare take to a club. however if he got sent mp3 promos or whatever there is little way he could prove they were obtained legally. surely if he was playing legit stuff he would have asked to be backed up by the labels of the stuff he was playing to show it was legit. fuck knows, jules said on his website he downloaded loads of mp3s of old vinyls he has but cant find when he was on tour or something and he wasn't fined or prosecuted for that...

Is that fact? Saying that, isn't their a law against 'Unauthorised public performance' of recorded media too?
For example, a private party such as a wedding doesn't need one, but all nightclubs, bars, etc., which are open to the general public do. I think even shopping centre's and such need to have them if they are playing background music (although that may just be in the USA?).
i used to work in a factory and they said they would need an entertainement license to play the radio over the factory speakers !! :spangled:
Hmmm... seems like a bit of a grey area. I always thought a venue needed an entertianments licence to have live music (whether it be DJ or band) no matter what audience it was too. But if you didn't need a licence for a CD playing in a shopping centre, why do you need a licence for a bloke playing CD's in a club?
haha Picotto maybe? To be fair people within the dance music scene seem much more relaxed about mp3's e.t.c Unless the police feel the need to raid you, which I doubt they'd do over here you should be alright really.
