Real could go for Gerrard next

Steven Gerrard is Real Madrid's number one transfer target for the new year, according to reports in Spain.

The Liverpool midfielder was on the verge of joining Chelsea this summer before being persuaded to stay at Anfield by new Reds boss Rafael Benitez.

However, it is widely believed that if Liverpool again under-perform this season, the 24-year-old skipper will be on his way.

And Spanish sports daily AS claim: "Gerrard is the target for Real."

If Stevie G leaves Liverpool this will be another huge step backwards for this great club. I know a lot of my old school mates who jumped on the Liverpool bandwagon in the 80's/early 90's will be gutted if this deal happens

I am sure Ralfie B will sign ANOTHER Spic to replace the heartbeat of Liverpool FC

All you youngsters wont remember this but Liverpool used to be like Manchester Utd, now they call a good season if they finish 1 place above Newcastle

More than likely mate. Although to be fair he can never be replaced.

Like them only in that Liverpool were superior and dominated for nearly 20 years before disappearing off the radar (slight blips would follow).. I notice this coincided roughly with Souness' appointment as manager...

Most of Souey problems at the Pool were down to Kenny D refusing to sack/sell players he played with. I will admit Souey didnt help himself while @ Liverpool

There were still some of the old guard there and Liverpool needed changing. Souness' problem was that he tried to do it too quickly and his transfer dealings were mostly poor. Still won the FA Cup under him but the club took a long time to heal after he left.. in fact we're prob still in the out-patients department despite 6 trophies in the last 4 years. Is Benny the man? He's been successful in Europe and domestically in Spain but, and like Souness' appointment at Newcastle, time will tell.

You cant blame the lad, I mean Micky O will be giving it large about Madrid & Roonaldo telling what life is like @ Old Trafford, he will want to take the next step upwards like they have.

No doubt, he is hardly guarenteed to win anything at Liverpool in the next few seasons, but despite their squad, Real Madrid arent as good as they should be

It would still be a sad day on Merseyside if he did leave though:cry:
