    re-installing MS XP

    How do you do it??

I want to re-install the whole OS and start from scratch,

its asking me if i want to overwrite the partition with the current OS on it but it says it doesnt recommend having the 2 OS's on one partition.

I cant delete the partition cos its got setup info on it and i aint got enuf room on the 2nd partition.

    Any ideas?

if i do add it to the current partition i think it asks for a admin password too..... whats this ? do i have to get is from MS?

The best way to install from scratch is to format and reinstall the os.

Boot from the CD in dos (might have to change the boot sequence in the BIOS first)

When u setup xp using the installation program it (eventually) boots into it'll offer you the option of choosing and then formatting a partition..

Choose wisely and remember the size of the partition you want to install to..

By his previous thread I would say he's already done that.

Isnt the setup info thing just a warning? Just overwrite it, it will warn you that you will lose everything...so make sure you back up first.

Then it will format and reinstall.

Admin password is set when you install windows for the first time, so it's quite possible it will be blank!

Boot to the XP disk - delete the old partition, create a new one then install it.

Make sure there's nowt u want left!

Low Level formats are the way to go nowadays with more and more virus's gets sophiosticated and managing to hide themselves in the sub-layers of hard disks
