    Quinn finally confirms interest!!

Former Sunderland ace Niall Quinn has confirmed he is interested in a possible takeover of the club.

Quinn is trying to put together a consortium who are looking to gain control at The Stadium of Light.

Sunderland chairman Bob Murray has admitted in the past that he would be willing sell his controlling stake in the club if the right offer came along.

Quinn, who spent the last six years of his career on Wearside, is now looking into the options of buying the club.

"I do not know how much they are going to look for but my worries now would not be financial at this stage unless Sunderland go mad," Quinn told the Irish Independent.

"It is not about putting money on the table and making an offer for a football club.

"We have to prove to ourselves, before we go near any fans or any club, we are capable of running a football club.

"It is a jungle, as I have found out in the last three weeks.

"It is not a simple thing at all and that is what I am in the middle of, making sure myself and my group are capable of doing a job this club deserves.

"Until we get to the bottom of that we cannot possibly approach Sunderland.

"We want to be ready for Sunderland so every question they ask we can answer them dynamically about what is going to happen."

The former Republic of Ireland international also refused to rule out the possibility of becoming manager at Sunderland.

Kevin Ball is currently in caretaker charge after the sacking of Mick McCarthy and Quinn has been mentioned as a possible contender for the job.

The former Manchester City forward holds strong affections for Sunderland and hinted he would consider throwing his hat into the ring for the manager's job.

"I am afraid of nothing at that football club," added Quinn.

"When I was up there it was like being on a magic carpet when things were going well.

"The emotion of the people when they are in good form and the club is going well is something to behold.

"Newcastle get 53,000 and they are a pretty big club. Everybody thinks they are far bigger than Sunderland but I know if this club goes right we will be bigger than Newcastle.

"That is what attaches to me to it. It is the potential, it is the people, it is their spirit."

    whats so laughable about that?

a lot of money can do wonders for a club and lets be honest newcastle are NOT that good anyway!

just more fans inside the stadium to be gutted when they win nowt ;) :p

You have made a point there though....

Certain people prattle on about plastic fans, but if we look at the newcastle facts...

'50 years and won fuck all'
not in europe (lets hope that changes next season)
had a pretty poor season, riddled with injuries and all that bother with Souness
    im summary, not a sausage.

and it's now that they are starting to play better and get results...

But over 52000 every week.....before we beat sunderland 4 - 1? The attendance hasn't been under 50000 all season. For the last 6 years the average attendance has been over 50000 people. And the average for this season is just shy of 52k.

    makes you wonder doesn't it.

Newcastles fan's are extremely loyal. Much more so than the Sunderland fans...I mean you's didn't even fill the stadium for the derby!

    Not at all!

If newcastle had gone thru the same shit as us for a decent amount of time you would NOT be getting 50,000+ each week - FACT!

Newcastle are still living the dream after the Keegan era.

It's the same kind of thing that could POSSIBLY happen at safc after the takeover. Loads of money pumped into the club, excellent players brought in etc etc...

If Newcastle finished near bottom of the leauge for the next 5 or 6 years the crowds would soon vanish

It's pointless arguing with them Dave, all they have to gloat about is their attendances.

Why does he have to mention Newcastle though? Is it all you's are bothered about, being bigger than us? Surely being a midtable Prem side, going for Europe, good cups runs, playing good football, etc, etc should be higher up on the list than being a bigger club than the Toon? When do you here Freddie going on about Sunderland???

It's not really going to happen though. Isn't that what Murray said about 8 years ago?

To be honest the only reason I mentioned that there specifically was cos of all this "plastic fan" bullshit - the attendances have been there through thick and thin (over the past few years, i'm not sure how it was in 1984 though, my bad), not just when they are doing well.

It's been a pretty long time since Keegan.....four full managers and a handful of caretakers....

Look at last season...finished 14th, STILL had over 50k average attendance.

You keep going on about "if you had been through this shit" etc etc, Newcastle has had its fair share of bad times this season and last and it doesnt seem to have deterred the fans one bit.

Souness - prime example. Yes they filmed a group of about 10 charvers chanting "souness out" and yes they showed a guy shouting at him but the vast majority of the fans, while pissed off, just wanted it sorted and more importantly wanted results - but they still stuck by the club.

Personally I would like to have seen Sunderland stay in the Premiership - derby days are class, and it's still a north east team at the end of the day. They just need to get their act together and sort out their defending gremlins. Performances like against Man U and indeed the first half of the derby are the type of football they should be playing ALL the time, and have shown that they CAN play, but consistency is the key and they can probably get that with the right directon and the right leader. Oh and some decent defenders.

haha let them have their dreams i say, its more fun watching them get excited only to be crushed again and again. We may have had a shit season, but atleast for us a shit season is still having a chance of getting into europe with 3 games to go, and also finsihing respectably in the league. ;)
