    Quicktime problem

Everytime I go to use Quicktime, my computer starts to go really slow and most of the time I have to reboot. Obviously, as I dont use Quicktime much, it only becomes a problem when I go to web sites that require it and it causes my browser to crash. However, it does the same when I try to load it up independently as well. And it is getting annoying on the occassions that it happens.

I would try reinstalling it but it won't let me uninstall it using add/remove programs - when I try to do this it just hangs there doing nothing. And when I go to delete it manually it doesnt let me. It just says

'Cannot delete qttask.exe: Access is denied.

Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use.'

which to my knowledge it isn't. Then it goes slow again.

I am using XP with service pack two.

Any ideas on what's up or how I can reinstall it etc?

    Thanks. :)

If I'm right - qttask.exe is the quicktime agent that loads at startup. Try either ctrl+alt+del and end the qttask process, or remove it from startup (start-->run, msconfig, startup tab). Make sure it's not running by using ctrl+alt+del, and uninstall it.

Were you using the latest version? If not, try the newest one - otherwise you can use VLC etc to play .mov files.

    :D

    Cheers.

Will VLC work the same as Quicktime when I go on sites that stream .mov files etc? Because, although it now uninstalls, Quicktime just doesnt want to know when I try to reinstall it.

Are you using Firefox? If so, go to Tools-->Options, click on downloads on the left, it should have a box with file types, select video/quicktime, select change action, select opens with... and navigate to vlc.exe. Sorted :)
