if they manage a worldwide release id be very suprised theyve already had enough of a fuck on with this blueray disk, to mass manufacture enough for a worldwide release is gonna be a tall order. sounds like they are filling us full of shit
not really. just means they wont bother spending as much time compressing and cutting out not needed bits and pieces.
yeah maybe, but it also means they don't have to cut bits out that they actually want in the game because there isn't enough space on the disc. Games are already short enough as it is with taking about a week to complete, some even in a day, i don't like the idea of this being made even shorter.
Blue ray will push the price through the roof. Stand alone players are shifting for ~ £1k.. I can see this being at least £500 on release. November will never be done though.. last I heard they had serious issues sorting the cores out on the cell chip..
From a certain angle you are correct.. however there is always a production cost to items.. and until the company refine the process of producing the item the price will unfortunately be high
yeah your right but it looks like there making there money back from all mugs that will pay £1000 for a dvd player I reckon the cost will be £300, sony always lose money on the consoles, they recoup all the money back from games and extras. They aint stupid, they'll know no one is gonna pay more for a console than a pc.
From what I've read in the retail press Sony are planning to heavily subsidize the blu-ray drive in the PS3 in an attempt to push up their market share... Blu-ray and HD-DVD are entering into a format war of VHS vs. Betamax proportions and Sony feel that this is the easiest way to quickly build up their position in the market. As for it meaning bigger and better games, I doubt it... The largest capacity format available at the moment is Dual Layer DVD (8.4GB approx) and I don't know of any PC games being published on it... there's a few on DVD but not many, they're usually the ones with huge pre-rendered scenes (Blade Runner) or more than one game (Half-Life 2). Most of the games released on CD-ROM still don't use up the full capacity of the disk.
"24 the game" on PS2 was across 2 DVD's when i saw the backup version the PS3 will be around £300 - any more than that and people just won't pay it - it won't be competative
The graphics are also probably pre rendered as for the blue ray disks being bigger meaning longer games... nah.. games arent made long any more , the space will be used for higher res textures, improved sound and other crap. chances are the games wont be any longer, instead they will be packed with fmvs and pre rendered scenes, and there is a good chance that with disks with such a massive capacity.. and the ability to hold massive textures etc... the ps3 wont actualy be powerful enough to run some of it
Sony spokes people have already stated that the system is going to be more expensive than other counterparts. the production cost for 1 console is around 700 dollars, and they will be on sale here i reckon for .... 450 thats my prediction anyway
Do you think there will be a rush like there was with the 360 cause I can see a nice money making scheme if there is
defiantelty - it's all marketing tactics... i remember the PS2 coming out... it was like "they've got 50 at dixons at the metro centre!" que loads of people belting up there with £300 in their hands! i was one of them
I think some raiding the savings account will be in order I might pre order a few. When are they being released to pre order?
