    props connecting to internet (dial-up)

iv unistalled my old isp software and now that im trying to get back online all i get is "This page cannot be displayed" in IE.

I sometimes get the dialup connected icon in the bottom left stating i am connected but no bytes get sent. msn messenger cant detect that i have a connection tho even when i have this icon.

iv trued loads of diff isp softrware and even my old one.... but get the same EM.

their isnt a problem with my pc or modem or phone line as i can connect using a diff pc.

the problem has occured with the IE software when i have unistalled my isp or perhaps a anti-virus program i was using.

i have no firewall or owt like that.

    any ideas?????

@ Teknofish - if what Sleepy says is the problem (DNS), go to My Network Places (on desktop or in start menu), click 'view network connections' on left, right-click on your internet connection and select 'repair'.

If that doesn't work go to Start-->Run and type "cmd" (no quotes), then at the command prompt type "ping http://66.102.9.104" (no quotes) and see if you get errors or not (ping uses summinck lower than TCP/IP which may be the problem if you're using this step). If you get a result (but you can't view http://66.102.9.104 in your browser), you may have to force XP to rebuild your TCP/IP stack (not a nice task). If it fails, there's most probably a fault with your modem/settings somewhere.

If you're using a version of XP before SP1 there were some major faults with TCP/IP and also handling DNS, which are sometimes impossible to correct (meaning a clean install - repair doesn't fix them)
