however, stereo is cool also... tis a bit more chilled out for a pre-bar than ec. i.e. no hardtrance at 8 o'clock

Eygpt Cottage.... Stereo is a bit to pretentious... its a pub that thinks its babooshka and u can hear the same music in promise later on if u venture into the backroom.

some bloke in there last sunday gave us a free bottle of champagne and some coke, so i like it even more now.

It's not very often you find a pub with such a split personality as the Egypt Cottage displayed on my fleeting visit last Friday night.

Although it's been a while since I visited this boozer, as far as I was aware it has always been a fairly cosy and traditional pub ideal for a couple of pints before you head into the frenzy of city-centre drinking.

And so it seemed this time - at first. Then came the surprise.

Firstly in the form of an upstairs room which I didn't even know existed. But when a mate said he was meeting someone there, up we went, seemingly into an extension of the sedate,laid back ambience downstairs offered.

So imagine my shock when we walked into what seemed to be a cross between a school disco and a hardcore rave. I doubted it could be the same pub and wondered if we had accidentally strayed into some set at Tyne Tees studios. Either way as we
were all closer to 30 than 20 we felt totally out of place.

It was all a bit hectic for 9.30pm. Having said that I reckon it would be fairer to judge the pub on how it was downstairs, because that sums up the kind of place it is most of the time.

And for all the noise upstairs a quiet relaxing pint in recently jazzed up surroundings on the ground floor was a perfect way to get warmed up for the night ahead.

If someone is looking for a quite pub - it certainly aint their cup of tea. Simon do u know rob? what sorta bloke is he - the type who likes to bosh or play nice?
