    promise mission control...

when its back from studding ;)..... how about it is split into two sections...

now before u say 'ah feck off u fuckwit u...' hear me out... :p

i think that the board has lost some of its fun element now because the main forum has gone.. yeh its nice to have some inteligent/discusion posts like we now have in the music forum but not all the time... its a mesage board supposed to be fun and not all about discusions...

anyways... how about we have part one of the main forum as a more serious side to promise... then have a second part for random stuff... and the fun side of things.. like gurn has.

    feedback please :D

i understand what ur gettin at but..... i dont think closing the main thread will affect the atmos in the club as most of the poeple who goto promise arent on the board...

ban random if u must.... but surely u will allow general chat type threads again?

I have to agree with 'kid.......the fiun element has gone!! I never replied to the random posts but I did read em and generally had a laugh...but now its all serious and to be honest a bit boring!!! And like TranceyDJ says it has been MUCH MUCH quieter!!! :( Which I can only see as a bad thing!!!

I say bring back the general forum for any kinda shit...I mean u dont have to read it do ya.....apart from deleting the odd illegal comment!!! But that can be left to Rob ;)

Personally I think the board might die if you dont...and since I've been here from day 1 I dont wanna see that happen :(

The main forum was a bit poo by the time it was closed but I do think the board needs somewhere for general chat and interesting day to day stuff. This board has built up its own little community which I would say, on the whole, does Promise good and helps to create the unique atmosphere that Promise has. Without a place to talk I think that community could die a bit and it certainly won't grow any bigger, I also think it will effect the atmosphere of the club and it could lose a bit of the closeness that it has.

Over the past few months the main forum could well have been a bad thing for Promise and I can see why Mark got pissed off with it but on the whole the message board has been a huge success for Promise and has contributed quite a bit.

The board is a lot better at the moment, From the start of the board I always used to just look instead of posting, but now I feel the need to post more because all the random crap has gone.

    Main Forum R.I.P. :D

I agree with that, apart from there is some fun in the Photo's section.

What if you wanna make a post that isnt for the Promise team, about the music, about the DJs, about next week's performance but it's still related to promise?

I agree with the Kid. You need somewhere to post stuff that isn't about just music/DJ's etc otherwise people will not post as much, go on other boards to post and, in time, it will cause the demise of a great message board. For instance, I have nowhere on here to discuss subjects like Newcastle United. Clubbers talk about more than music and any clubbing web site can't ignore that fact. Don't quote me on this but I doubt very many other boards haven't got a main forum, regardless of who it is for.

Mark is right when he says that the night is more important. It's a lot more important. Therefore, it shouldn't matter whether there is a main forum or not.

Doctor Mick talked abt a community being built up because of the board. He was spot on. I realised that when I first started going to Promise and it felt good to be part of it. Surely that has to count for something.

    :)

I'm for the resurection of the board too.

The main forum like it or not created the community we now all belong to, without it half us wouldn't of met and non of us would feel the need to come to promise on a weekly basis, the messagebaord was one of the big contributers to the growth and quality of Promise... It helped give it national fame (through other messageboards and shit) before promise's recent magazine coverage it was known as a prog club (or unheard of) - I think the net coupled with word of mouth has helped promise reach a national audience.

The content/quality for the short term may be more serious and interesting... but... this will dry up - in comparisson to gurn or gatecrasher the music boffins on this site are few and far between, I think the music forum will turn quite bland and as for the main forum (the only other forum imo which carries any clout) I feel it will also dry up, as reading which dj should be booked gets quite boring after a while and most people will get bored of complimenting promise after about the tenth time ;)

I know Promise don't want the random posts and stuff, I just hope they don't make the same mistake as crasher... Crasher had a club full of loyal cybers - for some reason they felt cyber was going to go out of fashion ;) instead of waiting for this change - they tried to be cutting edge and foolishly banned cyber?!?!?!? They lost thousands of loyal customers and almost killed their club... Sundistential handled the change in fashion far better every1 went from fur to try hard - the club never forced anything... the club is now extremely succesful with a loyal following - crasher is on its arse.

What I'm trying to say is you can't dictate what people say or how they dress, etc. If your loyal followers happen to talk random shite - then let them talk shite... if you tell them they aren't welcome your losing loyal cystomers (which aint good business sense if that what the majority of newcastle trance clubbers are)... I know you say save the randomness for gurn and crasher... but... these sites are a good reflection of ukclubland and they're the people who will travel to promise... so if both newcastle and the rest of the uk talks random shite - maybe give them somewhere to speak?

Taking away the main forum has left the promise majority with nothing to do, no where to post... where as before you had about 400 members thinking about promise from monday to sunday... Now we may be left with about 50 "more desirable" members - My personal belief is a a busy board is a good board as theres something for everyone.

shame your mind is made up :(

I thought you weren't ever going to promise or on the message board again after your girlfriends little rant last week!
In fact you sure she's letting you on here...

I think we may well have more specific forums next year so peeps can discuss day to day life but I still doubt a 'main forum' will be making a return.

Well said mate. I wouldn't of even come 2 Promise at all if it wasnt for the main forum and the people on it.

The only reason that the people on the board are agreeing with Mark is because those who thought it was a bad idea have already left. It's a lot easier to praise people through PMs than to criticise them.

Without a main forum, I personally find this board quite boring. The fact I spend most of my time here on the FAO forum backs that point up. I think that this board will eventually die without a main forum and that's a shame bcos this was once such a friendly board with really friendly people, who all met up on Friday. We may be the minority but that's no reason not to bother about us. For the good of the board, I urge you to bring the main forum back. It may have been going thru a negative period but it has done in the past and it managed to sort itself out then so I reckon it can be an advantage for Promise in the future too.

    Pretty please! :D

Then you're totally missing my point. Footie is one of a number of subjects that I miss talking about on this board. I just used footie as an example. If u allow people to talk abt footie then you shud allow people to talk about other things too.
