    Promise/Eddie Halliwell in Seven Update

Just got my copy of this week's Seven Update this morning and there's a bit in Buzz about Eddie, bigging up Promise too! :D

    Buzz: Eddie Halliwell

Scratching with Trance? Superstar in waiting? That’ll be Eddie Halliwell.

“I’m only small,” explains 22-year old Eddie Halliwell of his precocious fashion sense. “I don’t like it being baggy, I like to have tight clothes when I’m DJ’s. I really like Prada and Vivienne Westwood”

Not too many hard house spinners go to battle in skin-tight Prada. But then, as the cliché goes, Eddie isn’t your standard Hard House DJ. You’ll see him playing at Gatecrasher, and he’s managed by the O’Riordan brothers’ Serious agency. But the details are unusual. He practiced mixing for five years before even thinking about playing out, for a start. And his style reflects that preparation – he scratches trance, layers basslines and melodies and prepares meticulously for performances; which span house, tech-house, trance, techno and hard dance.

“If you’re just going ‘bang bang bang’ you’re not being very creative, are you?” says Halliwell. “There’s nowhere left to go. There’s a lot more excitement in playing with the crowd. The place for hard sound is towards the end of the night when people need picking up.”

His brief DJ biography is heart-warming; riding shotgun with the meteoric DiY Manchester party Goodgrief (which used to be called Totally Mashed. You get the picture). He’s now hot property, a ‘next big thing’ and a modest, shy gent to boot. His accent is pure Hollyoaks, he hates TV (“Always have, It’s a waste of time”) and lives with his mum. “She came to (Newcastle’s) Promise. All the club was chanting my name while she was stood behind me. I was happy she could see why I do what I do.” Some mothers do ‘ave it.
