    Professional Web Design

Whats the going rate for a simple website nowadays?

    Its to advertise a B&B.

Are there any price comparison sites?

a B&B here paid £1000 but it was done with a grant

dont be conned but u get what u pay for, theres loads of amateurs out there

best look in the yellow pages and pick out the adverts with the best quality and nicest looking adverts - they usually design them themselves, they will be the pricier ones, few hundred + but best results

For something that simple don't let ppl take your eyes out.

Shop around and u can get a quality looking one for about £500.

just get yourself a copy of dreamweaver and do it yourself....you will learn a skill and you can make the site exactly how you want it to be, just get ideas from sites you like (e.g. colour schemes, design, type of content)

and whatever you do, dont make a it a Flash site

I know how to use Dreamweaver. The site aint for me like. Someone I work with asked me to look into it.

They have a B&B in france and they want to setup a website and advertise the place to increase their income.

I could knock up a site no probs I just dont have the time.

these days though theres more too it than some nice graphics and fancy text, theres a whole bunch of standards that sites like that must comply too.

Yes but it doesnt take much effort to read up on the standards, plus you can check your site on the web to see if it reaches W3C standards

personally i would rather learn it and do it myself than spend £1000

yeah theres loads of code checkers online, which flag errors or highlight conflicts etc.

Simplicity wise.... I'm guessing it'll be pretty much a few photos of the place inside and out, location, rates etc and links to online booking agencies.

Basically a way for people to contact them (the owners) initially and make enquires.

fair point, but you are missing a key factor IMO, it needs experience, it takes long enough to learn to use dreamweaver, let alone make a professional, attractive website that complies to explicit standards! You cant just do it overnight, it can take a very long time to get to a professional standard web design, its more that html code on a page!

plus the actual person needs to be arty and creative, with access to other programs for imaging etc etc.

You don't need to spend £1000 like

PM Fizz, his prices are very competitive

    bloody hell, i hate amateurs!!!

learning dreamweaver as quick as you can isnt the solution to any website problem. Any fool can chop up a photoshop design bring it into dreamweaver and hey presto have a 5 page website in 10 mins.

(and for those dreamweaver users has any of you actually built a site using just the code editor or even notepad???)

yes yer right there are web standards these days and i agree Flash sites dont have to be the way forward, flash is just another slice of multimedia to be put forward for the solution...it all depends on what is the correct solution is and if its suitable for the business.

need advice gis a shout im happy to oblige.

Yes i have to do them all the time in Notepad and it is pointless, it is like telling someone to use the Dos prompt to run all their programmes instead of double clicking on an icon in Windows

But what is the point in not using Dreamweaver if you have it availble?

I think you are building up making a simple website a little too highly tbh, especially one as simple as an information site for a b&b ;)
