To be fiar mate theres loads, Cubase, Logic, Fruity loops, Nuendo, Ableton Live and Reason (although I find this program lacking in the areas I need it to excel).

I use Cubase but any of the others are worth looking, they all pretty much do the same thing, it's just the more expensive ones like Cubase, Logic, Nuendo will have better algorhythms for processing things like audio, so the sound quality will be a little better, however you can still make good music on the cheaper ones.

The only thing I would advise against getting is Reason, it's lack of VST's is something that you'll find a big dissapointment once you begin to get the hang of the program. If your not sure what VST's are, they are basically software synthesisers and FX which are bought separatly and offer a wide variety of different tools you'll need for producing music.

I'd advise getting demo's of some of the programs I've mentioned and trying them out and seeing which ones you like best.

if you wanna ask any more questions feel free.

Thats a good point you probably would learn quicker on Reason, but in the end if you want vst compatability your gonna have to learn cubase aswell or what ever you change to. I just think it would be better to use a program that you won't need to move from in the future.

To find out what you need for Cubase go to hear

    For Fruityloops go hear

Also this website is very good for info on production, it's a forum for producers and beginners to, they have everything you need to know on here.

Go straight in and learn Cubase .. you will end up using it in the end so you might aswell cut out the middle learning curve and get some beats going .. :D

so in ur opinion is cubase the best software to get to produce good dance music? is there any limitations that cubase has that may make producing music to a high standard hard.

also what is the best version of cubase. what do the lower priced versions lack?

Cubase mainly for me, but I use fruity loops, soundforge, wavelab, and reason also. All got their uses. :)

id say if u have the cash, purchase a mac and learn to use logic pro, its becoming industry standard in studios etc i havnt pushed the programme too much at college but ive heard from people that have that its the best by far

I wouldn't say cubase is the best, no program is the best it just depends on which one you like using the most.

I would say though the cheaper program's like reason fruity loops, won't have extremly well programmed algorhythm's, which basically make up what the sound will sound like, if you get what I mean.

Don't forget steinberg have been around since it all began and have had chance to refine there code to the greatest detail, same goes for logic and the nuendo programs.

If it's down to technical spec Nuendo probably has the most, but it has a lot of features that I will never use like excellent surround sound mixing facilites, and it costs a lot more.

So thats why I choose Cubase.

Having said all this though if you don't want to fork out for cubase, fuity loops is a very good program, and you can make very professional music on it. Guyver at tidy uses in for instance.

This program is very good, for the price.

cubase sx 2, mate but remember it's taken me four years to get where I am today don't expect to make excellent music within a year.

Also you'll need a lot of other stuff to get to the standard I'm at it's not cheap mate, so save up a lot of cash.

    Cheers about my tracks to.
