Producing Music Whats the best program or softwear to use for creating your own music? on a PC? and where could i get it from? Cheers Mick
i started useing fruity loops but got half way through 1 tune and got bored ive heard good things about cuebass anybody rember "octamed" on the amiga??
Cuebase is very powerful like! It's a sequencer, ie you use it to arrange your stuff! It's not used to make original material, use Reason for that! Fruity is ok but its quite limited and tedious
http://www.propellerheads.se/products/reason/ That has a list of distributors, far from cheap I imagine though. You can download *cough*evalution*cough* copies from the net though...
It almost certainly looks like a copy, all docs etc are on the cd's, it also says 'works perfectly' which makes it sound like a copied version. It would be cheaper to download them yourself, which it looks like that person has done.
thats the thing mate!!! i can't download!!! i could try and get my mate to do it for me!!! there seem like some ligit one's on the net... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3672661666&category=51346 might try and get one from ebay!
What you use helps, but its more 2 do with whats in ya head, Logic is one of the best, but is only supported by macs now. Cubase is also good, id say ya get better sound quality when compared 2 Reason. I have a friend called gaz west who produces under dark by design (DBD). He uses fruityloops and is amazing.
yer Cubase is maibly for arranging samples I'd say. Although Im struggling cos of the number of tracks. I know you can group things but how do you get all the volumes right? Probly simpler than im making it out
I wanna be the one of the first to hear it mind good Luck not that you need it talented all the way you are
Yes vubase is used more as a sequencer. Reason is not as hard 2 pick up or 2 use, and im far from an expert on producing, but i have heard bad reviews about the 'sounds' with Reason, ill check my source
first tip...get good monitors. if you don't have great monitors you might produce a track that sounds the bollocks in your bedroom but when you play it out it'll sound pants. i use reason but cubase is better. audition samples on reason, produce your loops etc on reason but make sure you clean them up before arranging in cubase. cubasis is a good starting point. it's only costs £60 and does most of the things the pro version does. when you have something, get in touch with someone like the grooverooms (01912212233) as producing in a studio is a must if your wanting to take production seriously.
Spunkton is correct, monitors are a must. All packages are goos, its whats in ya brain that counts. But Logic is def one of the best, but only supported on MAC now !!
Your most important thing isn't monitors, reason, cubase its your sound acrd (you can get away with your headphones till u can afford decent monitors but you cannot get away with a cheap soundcard). If you have plenty of money buy the Yamaha DSP Factroy... however if your skint buy the creative Audigy. You will also need a midi controller - but you can usually pick these up for around £20 from any music/computer store. If your very serious about music buy a mac and just use your pc as a slave drive, that way you can get away with programs like Gigastudio
you can have as many tracks as you like in Cuebase SX (well, as many as your processor will handle, its uasually around 13 on mine - AMD2400) Its not just for 'arranging samples', you should really use VSTi's through it to actually create the music, you will get a much better sound than just using reason's Subtractor etc... you dont NEED a mini controller really. If you find it easier to write melodies, beats etc using one, then get one. I hardly use mine at all. Its much more accurate to just draw in the midi data. Obviously the best set-up is a Mac and Logic (ala Lister ), but you can use anything u want, and feel comfortable with. James Holden uses software he wrote himself..!
