Problem with Hardrive My clever bird opened a Email from a unknown chinese person with the title "Hello! Important Info!" or something even lamer..... Her PC has since been destroyed by some unknow Virus..... It keapt locking up then shutting down. Now it wont see the hard drive on boot up. Iv put in a new HD and the pc bios "see's" this fine. Iv tried the bad HD in my PC and it cant see it all all. Iv tried diff cable settings etc. no joy. The HD is getting power to it but it dosnt make any kind of accessing noise at all. its a new HD and should not have died at this stage id guess UNLESS its been fucked up the virus.... So to recap.......... iv got a newish HD that no pc can "see" when connected. Whats likely to have happend to it and can it be saved?
bloody hell thats a weird one - its either the virus or coinsidence....... maybe the drive just happened to pack up the same time she opened this attachment....unlikely tho :spangled: does the drive get detected on the boot screen (before even starts loadin windows..) ? what about in the BIOS - whats it say - is it present? its probably a bootsector virus thats destroyed the MBR (master boot record) of the drive if its still detected ok in the BIOS.....
it isnt detected on the boot or and bios (tested on two pcs) its like there isnt a hard drive there!! could it be a bootsector virus?!?! anything else that it could be? I thought if I could get it detected i could use it as a slave and then kill the virus by accessing using the main hardrive (if there really is one) but i cant get the pc to see it....
That's almost the same that's happened to mine!! The BIOS isn't detecting it, but the bugger is spinning - no clicks but no bloody fucked bearing noises either... just put in a new MOBO, but not had a chance to test it on that yet...
not sure its the same cos pikes aint spinnin up either it sounds like....weird. pike - u know linux at all? not loads - just enuff to use a bootdisk and use fdisk on it?
foolish people... linux... shut the fuck up you gimps. Put the hard drive on by itself, no other IDE devices, as master on the Primary IDE controller - reset/load BIOS defaults. See what happpens. Try different IDE cables. if it's not spinning - it's a hardware problem - more than likely chuffed. Some old fashion PROPER viruses (not these microsoft hack viruses written by 12 old open sources nerds in the US) used to attack boot sectors - it could have scragged your boot partition.
