Problem playing Avi files coverted with DVDFab

They are "previewing" fine, in the format i want WITH SOUND byt when I watch them back they dont have anysound.

Avi's downloaded from the net play back with sound ok.

To get my own avis playing i had to d/l a codec and it still has to "aquire" that to play them, i am guessing its a codec issue?
How do i uninstall a specific codec??

    Thanks

are you converting them to DVD to play on a normal DVD player? when it asked you to install a codec - did it say which one? u get virus's like that you know.......

if it's an .AVI - it's only usually DivX or Xvid - go to either of their websites for the TRUE codecs - some of the 'codec packs' are full of viruses

u nugget. i told u about ConvertXtoDVD. would have saved u weeks of hassle

Download CCCP and the Insurgent from here: http://www.cccp-project.net/

Run the insurgent first - It will tell you which codecs you have on your system. Uninstall them all and then install CCCP. It's a codec pack with all the latest codecs that you'll need.

Which profile are you using in DVD Fab? You can choose the codecs to use by going to conversion settings and using the drop down menu's at the top. I personally use Generic.avi.xvid.mp3. This will create an avi file using the xvid codec and the sound is mp3. These work on my pc, streamed through my xbox and on my 5 year old divx dvd player.

MOS - Have some faith in DVD Fab will you :p The name sounds a bit gimmicky but it's not at all. By far the easiest way to rip a dvd and convert/burn it imo. Only thing I'll give to ConvertXToDVD is it's usefulness when you want to turn an avi file into a DVD Video disk with a custom menu etc.

Oh, and to uninstall the codecs it's usually the same as any other program.. goto control panel and uninstall. If it's not there, have a look in your start menu for the name.

    he's right, i asked a similar question a while back and was suggested this. that's all i use now, because;

    1) it was easy to install
    2) it's simple and easy to use
    3) didnt have to download any dodgey codecs or anything.

although it takes a while to encode, it's still good for the tiny app that it is.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but ConvertXToDVD is only for encoding to DVD Video? That's all I've ever used it for.

The codec issue doesn't have anything to do with the program that he uses either, it's the codecs :p
