Porn Dialers I was running windows 98 cos my xp hdd was knackered and kept getting porn dialers but didnt care cos I soon got my other hdd sorted out with a fresh version of xp. However, I've just found a couple of dialers in my xp install and I dunno how to get rid of them. The shortcuts point to C:/windows/internt.exe with some letters/numbers after it. I cant find internt.exe in my windows folder and I dunno how to get the crap off my pc. Can anyone help me out? I've installed ad-aware and it doesnt help. Deleted the shortcuts but they just appear again on a reboot. I think the dialers came from one of those well dodgy looking porn windows that is bigger than your windows res and advertises every kind of porn u can think of. The window popped up after I clicked a link to get a serial key. I've never had this problem on xp before till now.
Using firefox is a good start Porn dialers are pretty easy to get rid of really! Download Spybot Search & Destroy, that should sort it out! Then, block the stuff before it even gets on your pc - head over to: http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm Read the page, then install the file onto your pc. This will block thousands of known advert sites. Be careful when downloading cracks for software - this is the price you pay. I avoid it now, it's much worse than it used to be. If you have broadband the dialers will never actually connect....if you are on dialup (god forbid!!) pull the cable when u arn't at your pc.
Re: Porn Dialers Are the dialers actually trying to dial out at any point? You done a virus scan recently? If not, http://housecall.trendmicro.com - lots of dialers install trojans whilst they're at it. Ditch internet explorer too and use firefox instead, firefox isn't so easily exploited by active x controls If you're still having problems, the full name and the full path of the dialers would be helpful. Btw - I do not look like a porn window. Porn star, yes, but not porn window :tut:
little trick that is worth using when removing particulary troublesome spyware and dialers and such : restart the comp in safe mode (tap f8 with xp just as the comp starts up should open a window to allow this) then the pain in the arse spyware that wouldnt delete before would now be easily got rid of as safe mode will only allow system progs to be running and so none of the spyware can start itself up Also to really get rid of a lot of them u need to scan ur registery and remove any traces of it, tho i seriously wouldnt recommend this unless u know wot ur doing. and a 3rd way of stopping things running automatically when u start ur comp up is to go to start -> run -> and type msconfig. Go to the startup tab and then untick the offending prog which will stop xp letting it start up. these are all the steps i use only if spysweeper will not get rid of them on its own. and btw all the firefox users enjoy the amount of protection it gives u atm, becasue it really isnt that more secure than IE its just that every virus and spyware programmer goes for the flaws in IE because its more widely used. Its only a matter of time before they turn their hands to firefox
well u can download a beta version of opera now, not tried it myself yet, but i just dont like firefox. I do love the tab option on it but most of the sites i frequent it just wont display them right so i cant be arsed using it.
cheers, I'll keep this all handy for the next time anything appears. I got mozilla yesterday and everything seems ok... for now. btw, I'm sure I was using opera 6 months ago for a while
