Playstation 3 offer in HMV Just got this yesterday in HMV - pretty decent deal i thought PS3 extra pad 2 PS3 games (I got motorstorm and resistance) 2 BluRay films (I got full metal jacket and syriana) 425 quid .... pricey - but if you think of it as a games console AND all the other stuff it does (got mine playing music off a 500gb usb hard drive right now) .... it aint so bad. Resisted for a while but i have to say ... its actually quite impressive! (Although not so much as a games console at the moment - ha ha)
Not sure if the offer is still on, but when i registered to the Playstation Network, they sent me Casino Royale on blu-ray. Not a great film but its worth a fiver on ebay.
http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/872731 PS3, 3 Games, Extra Controller - £394.96 That's a decent deal for anyone interested. Use voucher code: AW30JULY - Valid till the 30th
Re: Re: Playstation 3 offer in HMV Mini computer / media machine really. Was playing music on it this morning and it sounded really good, then you have all the photo and video stuff gradually getting better ... and if your that way inclined, you can put linux on it. The new firmware lets you access media servers from it, so if you had a wireless network with a pc hosting music and stuff on it then it would be great for that. Ive got a dvd player that plays divx and stuff off a usb connection - which is totally ace, but the lack of a good front end to it all means all your filenames are limited to 8 chars and it doesnt load up images or thumbnails which takes the spontaneity out of it - but it plays divx/xvid which is perfect in the meantime. Its an expensive toy for now aye.
Playstation 3 is without a doubt THE most powerful games console on the market, hook it up threw a H.D T.V with 5.1 surround sound & it's unbeleivable! Just bought that Armoured Core 4, fucking unbeleivable game & one to buy if you like your japanese games
Re: Re: Re: Re: Playstation 3 offer in HMV Yep - you can, and much much more. Ive got a full htpc setup and it spends its time now in the spare room - media centre is good and all, but theres alot to be said for a silent machine that does it all out of the box (more or less) ... no fiddling around trying to get everything working in harmony. The pc will always be more flexible - but the 360 and PS3 have come a long way .... my 360's (had 2 of them) were really good for playing music on - its just a shame the machine sounded like a jet engine and one of them just decided to die on me.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Playstation 3 offer in HMV I went threw 4 XBOX 360's before turning to the Playstation 3. the 360 does sound like a jet engine & is basicly built from very cheap, shitty parts hence the reason they break down. Alot. Fuck Microsoft.
Its a shame the games on the PS3 are naff at the moment ... the xbox 360 has loads of good ones .... well until Heavenly Sword, Metal Gear, Killzone 2 and stuff come along...
When the good games come, you'll essentially be getting a high end gaming pc for under 400 quid - You would pay way more for a pc that could play games to the same standard.
I'll be getting one but no rush as theres fuck all games wise at the minute at blu-ray films are too expensive
400 quid can upgrade a pc to a better spec now though i would say. As long as u have the basics of course But i still see the appeal of the ps3, its a damn good piece of kit. Im just a PC man at heart
People are going on about how games will improve (in terms of graphics). I played a demo of Gran Turismo which is meant to have amazing graphics and tbh it didnt look anything special at all.
Aye, it's not doing so well at the minute - i still play on my 360 more but a lot of the stuff coming up looks spot on.
You must have had loads of fun playing arcade games when you were young. The graphics on the GT demo are shit hot.
Fucking rights, Gran Tourismo HD demo is unreal, i cant wait for the full game to be realeased in December lik
The reason there arent many games out for the PS3 is that developers in the U.K & U.S.A werent given the production kits till Febuary, Japanese developers had them 2 years ago. To make games for the PS3 is extremely hard for developers as the technology is way advanced & the 7 processors all do individual jobs & that's the tricky part for developers to work with at the moment. My cousin works for Midway, he's been a software engineer for 8 years now & he says the PS3's technology is mind blowing but will take a long time to get to grips with, but when they do only then will the full potential be realised.
At the most recent e3, they people doing the reviews all said that they can see the PS3 starting to pull away from the 360 in terms of graphics and it's still very early days. Shame there's no good games (yet) to make use of it
hahahahaha everything you say in this "Technology" forum is so biased. Its clear you are a sony fanboy. Your post about the 360, then this totally ridiculous PS3 post has made it all so clear
Nail on the head. I am a sony fan boy, well done, good lad. I used to have a 360, actually i went threw a few of them & it dident take me long to realise they were utter tripe. I just cant stand people who say the PS3's crap when they obviously havent played on one. The games selection at the moment is limited but so was the PS2's when it was released & that became the biggest selling console in history.
