    Pioneer CDJ help?

I have 2 CDJ's at the moment, both the same model (1000 mk1), one plays every single CDr I put into it, the other one (my mates) only seems to play original (as in bought) CD's and the very very occasional CDr (and even then its about 1 in 10 CD's and it will only play the 1st track). I've tried different brands of CDr etc. and they all play on my CDJ but not the other................Any ideas whats wrong, cause it will play bought CD's no problem? :spangled:

Not sure what's going on there mate, sounds like it could be the firmware on the player or possibly it's got a different model of laser to yours.

I'm assuming that the CDRs you are trying are scratch free.

Something you can try: You can get CD lens cleaners from HMV for about 2 quid. Try sticking one in your mates player to see if it fixes it. If not, well hey, at least you got a cleaner for yourself ;)

What kind of CDRs are they?

All CDRs are scratch free and a load of differerent brands, as I said they play fine in one CDJ they just won't play in the other.........Can you put the lense cleaners into CDJ's I thought you weren't suppose to (for some reason)?

You'll have to check the manual on that ;)

I've been reading up on the Pioneer forums (here ) and people have had similar problems with the mk1.

Some of the peeps on there seem to think that it's related to the speed at which you burn the CDs and what CD-writer you're using...

    Whats the setup you've got?

I read the same and tbh I don't get it at all.......If every CDR plays on one CDJ, and then pretty much every CDR doesn't play on the other CDJ surely there is something wrong with CDJ not the CDR?

I burn them on a G4 Powerbook using Toast 6.

    You'd think so.

The most likely cause is that your CDJ is more recent than your mates and that yours may have different parts inside - yours may be able to deal with cdrs, his might not.

I've got twin numark players at home, the bar where I used to work has the same model... but it used to bitch at cdrs too, whereas mine is a later version and doesn't, even though you can't tell the two apart there is a difference inside the case.

Out of curiosity, how are you burning the CDRs? Are you using disc-at-once? Are you closing them or finalizing them when you've written to them?

:dunce: I don't know, I stick a CD in and hit burn then it tells me job done and asks if i want to eject or mount the CD.

    Ok then...

Try reading through the manual for toast, there should be some info on how to change the settings.

Just as a guide, I use nero, and its set up by default to burn at 8x using Disc-at-Once (this means that it burns the whole cd in one go without taking breaks between the tracks).

You can tell if your cds are burned using disc-at-once if you can play from the end of one track to the start of the next without the cd-player taking a two-second pause between the tracks.

My numarks kick up a stink if you don't finalize or close the cds after writing, and nero by default doesn't close the disk if there's still plenty of room on it...
