php+mySQL -www.only-djs.com Hey im having a bit of bother i am trying to do a webdatabase similar to the one on www.only-djs.com but i dnt really know what im doing..? is there anyone out there who does and willing to help me..? i would be very grateful... Thanks Andy
Ok What is it exactly you are wanting to do with PHP/MySQL? A rip of the site or a model of one part of the site?
well i wanna be able to create a database of records and be able to show them on the website similar to the way the records are show on the dj-only website.. by either browsing or searching.. i mean is php n mySQL even the right lanugages to be using..?
php & mysql will do the job. have you worked with php & mysql before? if not you're kinda jumping in at the deep end...
not really used them but i have to jump in at the deep end cos it is for my final year project at uni so it must be degree worthy.. i have to do it regardless, thats y i need some help.. ive looked at alot of code and have numerous books on it i just havent actually coded owt myself... as u can see im a bit worried about it all.. id love it to have the same sorta feel as the searching on only-djs but i dnt know were to start..
well wen u find out what they are and how to do mine tell me cos im just going on books at the min cos if i go into uni now and ask what the hells happening they will wonder where i have been.. bah.. :spangled:
i doubt i could be much help i designed our site but most of the coding was done elsewhere. smartie knows a thing or two about php...
just download oscommerce and hack it to bits. i've done that before it's messy code but you should be able to work your way through it. tis kinda cheating but............
The MySql side of things is easy, if you can structure a database in MS Access you can structure a database in MySQL... Buy a decent book on php and read it from front to cover.... It isn't hard to pick up but as a beginner it'll be time consuming, don't try to build your site straight away try coding little things (like visitor counters, forms, etc.) once you've got your head round php building the site will be no problem...
ive brought a couple of books on it the main problem i am having is getting PHP4 to work on my computer, ive followed all the installation guides and ameneded all the conf files for Apache it still wnt work. got a friend comming around 2niye to hav a look so hopefully he will help.. ive also got my hands on Dreamweaver MX so that makes things a bit easier (hopefully) got a book on how to use it aswell.. yay.. what is the best book to get in your opinion..?
