People who own/know about 'dvd/xvid/divx' players.. I'm thinking about buying my dad one of these for christmas as the dvd player we use downstairs is crap and i have some videos in avi format that can only be watched on the pc. What is the compatibility like with these xvid/divx players? Do they play all .avi movies or do they have problems with some films because of the various audio/video codecs used like you often get in windows media player? Secondly, are there different types of players? I've had a look around and it seems some only state that they are 'xvid' or 'divx' players. I'd want a player that plays both.
Re: People who own/know about 'dvd/xvid/divx' players.. Ive had one for quite a while now and it plays pretty much owt i burn to dvd / cd !! It said divx on the box but all the xvid's ive been gettin lately play no probs , just drag n drop the avi from h/d to cd-rw ( as i use the same couple of disks over n over at the mo lol ) the one i got is from aria.co.uk and ive only had to update the firmware once in over a year !!!
I got a dual one from asda cos it had the card reader built in too- wan't sure what to expect cos it was only £40 but it plays all my divx/xvid/mp4 files no problems. plays pretty much all formats I've tried with it
Ive got a cheapo one - Its really handy although the one thing it seems to have problems playing is UK retail dvd's! .... Everything else (downloaded, copied, region 1 etc) plays perfectly well. at 30 quid i cant complain, but it probably because it was one of the cheapest you could get at the time. Well worth getting tho.
Its a cheap as chips nationwide supermarket where the food is inedible but the electrical goods are decent.
